Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

The wing span is the same as your 180, 36ft. By the looks of it the other day that is the narrowest portion of the strip all the way on the north end. I still need to land there, maybe tomorrow! We'll be flying up to Ukiah for breakast and then Gravelly Valley if anyone cares to join.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

If any these strips are suitable for a greenhorn with regular ol' tires I might just try to tag along. Someone needs to fly with Joey. I haven't landed this plane off airport yet so point out the girlie strips and I'll try those first. Will have to check with the boss, and the other boss to see if I'm free first.

I did all of these strips with 8.00x6's with no problem.

Svanarts-
We have a whole bunch of places you will be just fine. Then we have a bunch of places that you wont have the option for as well.
Lots of options. The ciruit has only been getting bigger. Will be fun!

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Kevin where will this gaggle be originating from? I'll need to fly up the night before and find a place to crash. Truckee is probably about an hour and half for me from here.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Joe - if you like, you can fly to Westover and we can fly up together early. Only if it makes sense. You might need to crash in my hangar though, as I have family event the night before!

Or there is always Georgetown. It's most of the way to Truckee and has a campground.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Or you can just go to Truckee, they have a campground as well on the souteast side by the gliders. The FBO has bikes to ride into town also. Ask AKT for the details.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

We can camp at the Ranch very close to Beckworth / Nervino airport (cheaper fuel) or the like Rob said, the Gilder port is good as well with a camp ground. Truckee fuel is 30c more. I have a vehicle to shuttle to town no biggie. The hanger is always a good spot to hang out. Couches, frosty treats, TV for airplane videos, etc. Would be fun to have you guys for 2 days given the different circuits.

Maybe up late afternoon on Saturday, Fly Sunday until mid day and then fly early Monday and then you guys can get home?

What works?

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Just re-reading this thread-

We are on for arrival on Saturday night with flying Sunday and Monday morning over labor day. I think camping in Truckee Friday night is best or wherever you choose. It would be nice to launch at 6:30 or 7am on Sunday morning and go south/east to the desert first for the south circuit. We have a lot of place to go for everyone, but ideally its not a trip to come with low experience so that your not pressured into certain scenario's. We do have a lot of really cool spots but speed control and nailing your spot landings on certain LZ's are a must. Tire size is not so much a big deal. Some of the really cool spots are high making early AM the best for DA.

Shoot me a PM with questions. I think we are going to have at least 6-8 planes as of now.

Its going to be a good, fun time!

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

I have to catch a plane out of SFO on monday the 5th, so it would be best for me to do the flying on saturday and sunday. Or we might just fly up Saturday evening, stay the night, fly sunday morning, and then head home afterwards. I guess it depends on what everyone else is doing.

Well at this point I still have to admit to low experience so maybe I'll sit this one out.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

I'm in! I'll probably fly up from MRY on Friday afternoon and camp that night in TRK so I can be ready to tag along with you "regulars". (Maybe some "warm-up" flying on Saturday morn, AKT?)

Can't wait to put some faces to the names.

Re: Sierra Flying / Nor Cal

Svanarts, the only way to get experience is to get out there and fly! I'm sure there are several places you would have no problem getting in and out of. You don't have to land anywhere you're not comfortable with. If I can do it with a stock 170 you should have no problem.
