UREM38E @ $24.45 versus REM38E @ $29.95

Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

Mike it is not just Alaska on the seat training, one of the first things I had to do when hired by a small 135 company in SE Michigan right out of A&P school in 1983 was to write the manual supplement for the removal and installation of the seats and to train the other two guys working there as pilots. It was amazing how much safer this air carrier was following the training  Just to add about the annealing of spark plug gaskets, we were taught that procedure in A&P school, at that time it was industry standard to reuse the gaskets.

Tim

ps, you don't have to throw the use gaskets in a landfill, metal recycling centers will pay you by the pound for them.

I'm more the anneal -n- re-use type, but some would rather install new.
Nothing wrong with doing either.
I can't believe there's such a lot of discussion (dare I say strife) over such a minor thing.
I burn cargas, and can't believe that some people can but don't...but I would never take anyone to task over it. That's a personal decision...kinda like sparkplug gaskets.

I don't think many of us argued that it isn't a service instruction. We wondered what the actual point of the service instruction was. Was it because hardened gaskets don't seal and torque properly, or because of grounding properties. We still haven't gotten an answer about that. Maybe a copy of the SI would help.
Right now I can only go from off of why Champion recommends new gaskets, and that is strictly due to sealing/torque issues. Nothing about grounding. Again, I'm open to hear any scientific or manufacturer points towards the grounding issue, but so far it's just a theory from 8GCBC.

Ok, F-it, I'm going to go anneal some copper after reading this thread! I've always used new because, well, I'm lazy but now just to be spiteful, I'm going to cook a bunch up. :D I've been saving them for years knowing I'd be annealing them at some point. Now is the time!

Interesting?

Cute kitty :D

So the crank is the ground path for the mags??

*edited for spelling.

Go luck with your mags and hope they do not flash over!! God bless new and used copper. Use good judgment, however. We all know what is needed. Sorry, no docs to prove the case is the ground?

I will use brand new. Without thinking about it.

But, I appreciate the broad base of opinions. Thank you guys. Hell, if I knew everything I would be flying or turning wrenches, instead of trolling for information. I learned a lot here at BCP.

... But, let's talk about the cool new Tempest with a new gasket. It is very nice.

Fly safe.

Anybody heard my throttle cable "STORY" melting the throttle shut? It all started in a little Part 91 hangar long long ago ...the grounding strap was... :(
