BCP was represented here as well. Thanks to Gary (Shortfielder) for help with the score keeping! Next year we are going to have a bigger push for volunteers. If you want to have a great time and get a FREE HAT think about coming up.

Re: Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Thanks Joe. My plan is to make it up there, to the fly-in, just as soon as I get my experimental project finished (if experimental projects are ever finished, that is ;)

Re: Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Thanks for posting that! I hadn't seen it yet.

Some of those guys are artists with their machines.

And I like the way lil cub looks now! Way to go for him getting it rebuilt in time to practice and win!

Re: Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Great video, the first I've seen of the comp. Thanks for finding that!

Interesting to see the difference in tire pressures and technique.

And Lil'cub looks pretty cool! Who needs wing tips?!? Is there clear wrap of some sort capping the end of the wing?

I was thinking about this earlier, but if one of the Cub's great bush features is how draggy it is, I wonder if he didn't just leave them open for more drag?

Very cool footage! Man, that SQ-12 looked like it was operating outside the laws of physics. Amazing.

Congrats to all!

The ends of Franks wings are opemn I'm guessing that would create more drag which is probly an advantage for him.

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

I was able to examine Lil Cub pretty close, the wingtips are just wide open, no clear cover. Sure makes wing interior inspections easy! It's also got carbon fiber flaps and what covering there is is Oratex.

Speaking of Oratex, if you guys ever see Lars working the Oratex Booth at an airshow do yourselves a favor and go say hi, that guy's a hoot!

SQ-12 was my favorite machine at the airport, it was just finished recently. Rumor around the ramp was Josh only had 10-15 hours in the airplane before the competition, anyone know if this is true?

Just love those huge flaps and little long chord ailerons! Power-plant is an IO-400 with Nitrous, crazy! No replacement for displacement as they say...

Valdez STOL Video 2014?

Ok, as promised here's some highlights of the Valdez Fly-in, I'm no HennyCub but I think it turned out ok.

Flew the pacer from Lake Hood around 6 on friday evening, took a little detour thru the Columbia Glacier. Arrived at Valdez with winds gusting around 27 out of the east, typical Alaskan WX I'm told. Spent a lovely night with the tent walls bowing down to rub on my face periodically in the gusts. All in good fun! Saturday the winds picked up again for awhile, which led to some confusing windsocks but fortunately the winds let up in time for a slightly delayed STOL competition.

Sunday was calm and warm with some flour bombing and a mass exodus in the early afternoon.

All in all a great weekend punctuated by some good times with a few fellow BCPers.

Much thanks are owed to Joe Prax and all the fine folks in Valdez who make this show happen, good work!
