Nice looking plane. :) I've spend about that on my 150 too, and might be able sell it for half that. :x ](*,)

I think it should be pretty obvious it's all in fun.... it does kind of distract credibility and seem white trashy....

Dang! Been called a redneck a few times. But never white trash before.
Thanks. 8)

It is a drag to see chest thumpers come out of the woodwork to brag up their planes, but maybe it's just been the cubbers you've ran into?

Actually I'd find it kind of sad if it wasn't to the point of being humorous (yes, I have a twisted sense of humor). I especially love the guys that brag up their Super Cubs with huge tires and Borer props, then go on to complain about the speed. :-k ](*,) But won't even think of ever getting anything else.

I just spent 50 hours flying a C180 to Alaska, around and back. I thought I was a reasonably capable tailwheel pilot having flown Super Cubs and Husky's for quite a while. Well I learned some lessons; a fully loaded, as in full GW C180 stays on the runway about 10x what a Husky or Super Cub does. You have to be on top of your stick and rudder skills with any wind. I finally was comfortable with the plane when I got back to Fort Worth. We put the 180 in the hangar, I loaded my Husky with all of my stuff and flew the short flight to my airport. The take off run was about 150 feet and the landing was about 200 feet, no real time at speed on the ground, what a difference. Now, the reason we took the 180, it carried two of us, all of our hunting, fishing and camping gear for a long trip. The Husky would only carry one and the stuff needed for one.

BTW, I've got right at 50K in this cub, so they're not all quarter mill$ hangar queens:

I appreciate the compliments. Truth is I bought it "right" flew it a few years and then recovered / refurb'd it myself. That was almost two years ago and it's already showing some "battle scars" but what the heck? it's not so ultra sanitary that I'm afraid to use it!

Below are some clips from a hunting trip report that a friend just sent me. I've changed the names to protect the guilty, but it pretty well sums up the way Super Cubs are used up here and says a lot about their owner's additudes.

John Doe had a WHOLE 55” Moose in his plane

on floats and the thing flew. The float tails were under water when we were loading and I didn’t think there was

a chance in hell he’d even get the thing on step…guess I was wrong. He can actually haul more than I can (not legally of course.

It was a common occurrence for him to fly 3 fat assed adults and gear in the plane.

He’s got an extended baggage compartment that goes back into the tail. ...one guy gets to sit backwards with his back against the back of the rear seat.

Not to sound too much like MTV, but I find this sort of thing horribly irresponsible, not to mention dangerous.

Anticub,

Maybe you should seek professional help for your fixations with SuperCubs. I am probably not the only one who is sick of your BS. Get a life!

Ouch. But in all honesty, just because half the SuperCub drivers out there like the smell of their own farts doesn't change the fact that the machine can do a lot for what it is. You've been touting the finer points of a Cessna 150 for a while...and I agree that a 150 will do more than most people will give it credit for. I also agree that a Super Cub is about 150% overpriced for what you get. But that's not the fault of the plane, that's the fault of the fart-snuffing yuppies who buy them because of what another pilot can do in them.

I've never flown a Super Cub and, given my financial situation and general lack of friends, probably never will. I'm just as ignorant to defend the platform as you are to criticize it, but give the devil its due. The plane may not be worth what it costs, but that's hardly your concern. The world is full of people who will spew an endless litany of horseshit about whatever they happen to be involved in...some recent posts about the abilities of a Cessna 150 come to mind, as do an endless number of SuperCub-Superhero stories I've read...but it's just a phucking machine.

I think you had the right idea when you wanted to change your screen name. AntiCub robs you of some credibility.

Hey, Rob, maybe we can make a deal. I always dream of having a Cub to go with my 180. Then maybe I could get into the banana strip.

I tried, but the doc said nothing was wrong with me and started pulling out pictures of his Bonanza. Then sent me a bill that my insurance said wasn't "Reasonable or Customary" ](*,)

Spoken like a true Cub Driver Tito! =D> Someone gets it. ;)

OH NO! I'd hate to ruin my Net Cred! :P
Seriously Ravi, quit trying to ruin my fun with reasonableness. ;)
But only 150% overpriced?? Come one, don't cut them so much slack.

Hi Wayne,

Are you the orange and white early 180? If so I remember meeting you at Red Creek a time or two. Turns out the eagle people don't want anyone in the banana strip anymore :( bummer the fishing was way better there than most of the the other lower holes. I had a heated run in with the Care Free district manager (Tonto Natl Forest) about the way they closed it. Or more appropriately booby trapped it...but it turns out it really is within the wilderness area, sooo needless to say I won't be fishing there anymore  PM me for the full story if you're interested. Heck PM me anyways... the Wx is getting better, let's go fly!

Take care, Rob

Naw, I just love watching how defensive they get when I suggest the Stuper Cub isn't the ultimate aircraft. ;)
Show a Cub owner an F-15 and I swear 9 times out of 10 the response will be "Yeah, but I can take off shorter!" #-o

AntiCub wrote:My VSI only goes up to 2,000ft/min and I peg it climbing at Vy under the above conditions. At gross weight on an 80 degree day, climb is down to 800ft/min. I have the VSI checked with my encoder every 2 years, and it matches my calculated rate for a 3 degree approch on the PAPI. My plane is a 1963 150C (straight back version) and only weighs 1025lbs with 6 quarts oil and 3.5 gal unusable fuel (dry weight is 992lbs) . So with me at 215lbs and 10 gals fuel at 60lbs my take-off weight is only 1300lbs. It has the same wings and engine as the later, heavier 150's so performs better.

1) credability meter is dropping
2) even a cub driver wouldn't have "I peg my VSI in a Vy climb"
3) what WAS your girlfriends name 8)

1) Dang, guess you better start ignoring me then since I don't know diddly :P

2) That's becuase most Cub drivers have long since removed unnecessary stuff like VSI's. :) And don't forget the rest of that conversation, I still have the stopwatch in my flight bag, but I've been too busy getting ready for winter to test it. Looks like a nice weekend coming up though, so I may have to play hooky in the plane for a bit. ;) I'll post the results under a new thread titled "Real C-150 Performance" Now, just have to get my RATO bottles refilled... :-$
Hmmm...well my POH lists climb rate at 2500ft at gross weight as 760 fpm, so the 800 I'm showing at 1000ft at gross seems about right. Maybe my VSI is progressively further off the further I get from zero? Looks like a nice evening out there, if I get time I'll grab a stop watch and time a few climbs from 1000 to 2000ft at Vy.

Phil

3) Girlfriend?? My mistress (what I call my 150) would never allow that [-(

The way you portray your Cessna 150  , maybe NASA might be interested in it as a replacement to the space shuttle. Maybe even the Airforce as a replacement for the F22. :^o Maybe Cessna will start up the production line! Not :!:

Way to quote MTV there Idaho!
Actually, Cessna just did start up production again. The new 162 SkyCatcher resembles the old straight back 150 through 150C more than the newer model 150/152's. :D

Any rumors of Piper making Super Cubs again?

Never heard of a C162 SkyCatcher until now, and it sure does look like the old C150.

But, I bet you could buy a C150, rebuild it from the ground up to better than new, put in an all glass panel, and still have 100K left over from the purchase price of one of those C162's... That'd pay for a lifetime worth of gas and insurance.
