Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Holy crap, I didn't know you bought that Cub. I used to work with the guy that got it all fixed back up for Donetta to sell.

Tadpole, it is a small world. I already ran into a couple other people who had connections to the cub and Donnetta.

Neat. I remember Joe telling me the story of her wanting to get it back flying and to someone who would take care of it, I think she might have gotten the right buyer! I hope it's working out well for you!

Re: Where did you fly today?

This afternoon, Bushy and I met up with Greg and Bob Norman at Parr airport. We all had skis on. It turns out that the local TV station sent a female crew out to film our ski flying action. Of course the camera girl "chose" Greg to fly with, which meant us old guys in the yellow planes got filmed. We did some formation flying and one off airport landing. So, I guess it is "film at 11:00", or in this case after the Olympics is over. jg

Re: Where did you fly today?

I wish I had photos to show how awesome today was.

Took the Comanch into Elk River today, what a cool place!
The strip had a layer of ice/snow on it that was hard packed enough to permit operation w/out skis.

Had breakfast and pie in the lodge. A great breakfast after a flight and approach into such a cool place, you all share my sentiment that there really is nothing even close to as much fun as that!

Ended up running into Keith who owns K and M Match cases http://www.kmmatchcase.com/ . Visited with Keith and got a tour of his old school machine shop complete with a lathe from the 30’s. I didn’t have any cash on me, but he insisted that I take home one of his widgets and mail a check. What a guy!

The take off was un-eventful, but man, them are some big trees! I know what you’re saying  , it’s not a tuff strip, but I’m not in a STOL craft either. The book take off distance is a third of what is available but the strip has 4-6” of crap on it, and I had a tail wind.

You know how it is when the alternative to a successful outcome is…well…… ….let’s not go there!

Followed that up with a fuel purchase in St. Maries, as well as following the river up to Shoshone, then back to Spokane at 8500 and 190 knots in the decent. Awesome.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just a scenic flight around the area on Wed to warm the oil (Before Obama shut down everything). Figured I'd try snapping some video with the Droid to see how it turned out (not to great, but ok for a phone). Shep did a ok job filming the takeoff. 8)
