Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

When my first car reached 100,000 miles I pulled over to the side of the road and pissed on the tires, as it was the only ceremonious thing I could think to do at the time.

What should we do when this reaches 100,000 views???

Don't delete it. Archive it and rename it "Where did you fly today 1". Then start a new "Where did you fly today" thread. It would be nice to look back through all of that stuff.

I was just kidding. This thread is epic.

However, I would like to see some of the more comprehensive or photo-heavy trip reports start their own threads. It makes it more fun to read through the TR forum.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I do think Shorton should get some sort of award for starting the most popular thread on BCP.

I know I love seeing what folks are up to, however small a flight. Keep 'em coming.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Rented the Pacer with the intent of flying to the Evergreen Aviation Museum down in MMV. Left Scappoose and about Hillsboro realized the forecasted weather wasn't gonna work out. The cloud bases were down to the ridge the Newburg VOR sits on and pretty close to the valley floor right over the Willamette, so I wasn't going further south.
The weather started to push my personal limits so I went to find something else to do.

The weather was much nicer over in Clark County so I decided to do the "Clark County Rally." There are quite a few grass strips around Vancouver that are fun to visit, some rural, some used to be rural. Not exactly backcountry, but still a fun break from asphalt. Hit Vancouver-Pearson, Camas Grove, Fly-for-Fun, Cedars North, Goheen, Brush Praire Aerodrome, Woodland (half of the strip is in Clark County). Daybreak looked wet so I just made a low pass :(

Special VFR through HIO airspace. I had VFR conditions at my location, but one of the weather observers reported IFR (ATIS reported VFR) on the other side of class D about 7 miles away, so i needed special vfr to sneak transition back across to the west hills. Guess I need to dust off the FAR/AIM tonite.

This strip was out in the boonies 20 years ago. Approach to Fly-for-Fun, reminds me of that country song "Daddy Wont Sell the Farm"

Re: Where did you fly today?

What a fantastic day. Haven't been flying much lately and the last time I took off it was so rough the stall horn kept going on and off. I hate that.

Can't say it was glassy smooth but calm enough I felt comfortable dropping down to 500' over the Columbia for a short stretch near Woodland. Did a couple slow and short landings at Scappoose and Woodland.

I've been re-reading a slow flight article from the "Aviation Safety" journal I picked up at Arlington last summer. It suggested a rule of thumb of taking half the percentage under gross weight and subtract that from the published gross approach speed (and that's probably still a bit fast they say). That brought me down to 55 on approach, just about where the controls started to feel a bit soft. The stall horn wasn't blaring so I may still be a bit fast but it was good enough for my experience level. I was able to make the first turnoff at Scappoose fairly comfortably.

We just had the prop re-pitched to a climb prop. I was off a little shorter than normal but not much. Cruise speeds seemed to be fairly close to what I typically got. But the prop as also refurbished while they were at it: analyzed for stress fractures, new paint, dings removed. It looks like new so that's probably making it fly faster.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Delete it  Did you really say delete it  You want to kill my baby?? [-X I still think it is great fun to see what everyone else does with their plane, especially when the weather here is the shits or I'm broke down or just broke and can't fly. Right now the weather is pretty nice but I am playing with snow machines instead of airplanes. Maybe this year I will finally make it over to the Situk river to go steel head fishing, that starts early in the spring.

There was a brown Beach 18 that flew around here and I haven't seen it for a while, I know there was one wrecked a couple years ago but I don't know if it was the brown one or the one on floats I used to see in Juneau.

Keep writing the little stories for this thread I like 'em [-o<

Shane, I think you will go down in BCP history for creating the longest running thread ever. Congrats!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Shorton The brown 18 was Hans replacement for the one they bent a couple of years ago, it didn't make it very long either, I think had a gear problem, he was asking 25 last fall for it and it was ferriable??
Friend of mine from Indiana sold it to him, He used to have the 3's and a couple of 18's flying fish out of YAK for awhile.
Have you run into Drake?
