Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Somehow, Minnesota just didn't make the cut for the honeymoon. Although I'm not sure why-- we could have found funny accents, bad teeth, and fried food in any respectable MN town. ;)

You forgot the mosquitoes.

AKflyer21,

I just read your note, fishing has been fair for dollies, sockeye just showing on the beds now, water pretty high right now. Spring King run is over but feeder kings are picking up. Haven't tried for Halibut at all.

Troutdale to Sandy River. Oil change and new spark plugs. Lunch run tomorrow with the wife and another couple.
Maybe get the new Drift camera going.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Took my wife's son flying to day. Went to a few spots and walked around. Seen Grizzly tracks and wolf tracks. The fishing was not good do to the high water. Gravel bars are soggy and short. Had a great time still. Seen 17 moose and a few sheep. Landed at Central for a berger. Great day.

5th BFR is now in the books. Pretty painless this year, have hooked up with a great local guy that I like and has a practical approach to flying.

I really believe that the biennial flight review is a good program and something everyone should take seriously as an opportunity to improve. The regulatory information from our ratings fade so easily and so fast.

Sorry to pontificate. :)

I agree it's something to be taken seriously and important to get the most out of it! Because i've had a few encounters with icing over the last two years my instructor, who was my instrument flight instructor, and CFI for years decided out of nowhwere to act like I had a tail stall.....let's just say It was interesting fighting him with the controls and it caught me off gaurd. But I definitly drove home the point of what to expect! Stay out of ice! :)

Lunch run to my favorite beach spot. The wind was blowing and swirling pretty good, as it often does at Pacific City. I had 4 souls on board. Made great landings, they thought I was a super pilot. Boy I had them fooled. First video with the new Drift.

Robw56 this is about 5 miles sw of rio vista. Avid knows where it is.
It was shot with an iphone and my buddy had never stood at the liftoff end of the strip.
I was going to post this in aktahoe's practice strip post. Anyway there is a 1200ft practice strip in the delta.

I've been busy getting settled in the new house and didn't see this. I'll have to go check it out sometime, looks fun!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went flying North. The weather was great and the visabelity excellent. The rivers are high but dropping and the gravel bars are drying up some. Hope to get some fishing in before hunting season. The Mountains are out of sight and seen several sheep. I need to invest in a video camera. Got two hours in today. Will fly out for pike fishing this week. What fantastic flying. Be safe and have fun...

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just got back from camping the weekend at Chukar Flat on the John Day with the wife. Strip is in pretty good shape, but could use a dose of weed whacking. Maybe next week I'll head over and work it over. Weather was perfect and fishing was good too! Caught about 20 small mouth bass about the size of my hand. They're small, but fiesty little  . We put a coat of Thompson's Water seal on the old picnic table. Been meaning to do that for quite awhile. It really sucked it up. Got back to Hood River, and it was pretty windy (as usual). Always good to get back home :D

What kind of video camera are you using?
Did you make a mount for it or did it come with the camera?
Great job on the videos.. =D>

Re: Where did you fly today?

Rob, you might want to check those wing attach bolts. Looks like something is coming loose!
Seriously, let me know if someone comes up with a better idea, but have been thinking foam block and duct tape or??? to avoid any wiggle at higher speeds? Another question is did you put a 1/4"-20 through an inspection plate, as it appears, or some other mount to the strut tie down spot. I am wondering if there is any way to avoid the wobble at speed on a fabric aircraft with the camera mounted to a plate...

LOL, I took those with the handle bar mount on the pitot tube. Now it is on the strut, rock solid. Will have a pic tomorrow. Been a long day. Fun too.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Trying to get home from points north, I got delayed by this site, west of the Big Lost, south of Challis. Once landed on top at 8300' closer inspection showed it even better then I thought, no "damn, didn't see that bunch of rocks etc", it is SWEET! Unless it already has a name and everyone knows of it , I'm calling it Hi-Top. The wildflowers were a nice touch also, as were the views in all directions.ImageImage

A few miles further south, and now in the main Big Lost River Valley, I got delayed again by this great view of Mt. Borah.Image

Then as it was past noon and I needed breakfast I decided to quit screwing around and get home, that lasted another 20 miles and after landing this site, took this pic of the takeoff, as an old hang glider pilot I love steep takeoffs, they seem oddly familiar, only difference is I'm not running but sitting down.Image
Almost making it to the high desert I have to cross before getting back into the mountains I live in, I got delayed yet again by realizing I had to check out the lower launch site at the King Mt. hang glider site, with another good steep takeoff when leaving.Image I couldn't make it to the EAA Arlington Fly-in, so I had to be content this weekend to just fly local, darn it. This was Saturday, Sunday another S-7S pilot and I flew to Afton for breakfast, and on the way back discovered a new landing site on a island in the Blackfoot Res, I feel the need to plant a pirate flag as a wind indicator for some reason.Image Halfway home from the island, a road landing behind a phosphate mineImage A good weekend!

It's the first time I have had Pam in the plane twice in one day!
Nice vid, I need to get a Drift, if I would have had a little luck at the JC raffle I would have one
If anyone knows the Albany airport manager, could you have them drop the mower deck a couple of notches so that OregonMaule can park off field with us Cessnas. 8)
Awesome day!
