Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

That was me down on the ground waving- you saw me, right?

In case you're curious, the mountaineering season is winding down- here are the year's stats:

So that was you :)
Thanks for the info.

Flying into the Alaska Range last weekend to check out a strip to drop a raft for a float trip down the Hartman River and South Fork of the Kuskokwim.

Nice. I really need to get down and explore that part of the Range. I've only been as far as Farewell on that side.

$8.25 out here in the sticks, it's closer to $700 for that particular trip as the Cabela's tourist flies (This is a part 135 workin' bird). This was purely recreational...truely priceless! :D

One from Chelle lake. This cabin has eaten more bushwheel equipped planes (including one MTV might be familiar with)... The nerve of some people showing up in the bush with out their "extensions"

Re: Where did you fly today?

I flew over three large hippos swimming, or wadding and didn't get pictures!! I am not sure I was supposed to be there so I didn't go back around to snap the photos. This is in Ohio too! And I am not talking about fat people, these are real two ton looking things.

That is a great photo. I love old Cubs.

There is a purdy nice J-4 for sale near me. Thank goodness my wife has enough sense to keep the checkbook with her at all times.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Came home from an all day crane job and de-compressed by taking advantage of the 10-12 mph west wind, right into the N/S ridge behind my place. Even launching late at 6:40 I still got a good half hour in dead stick, that's 0.00 GPH! No gains other then a couple hundred feet, but hung in there till it started to die and then made it 4 miles out into the valley below before re-starting, and then worked the remaining small ridge lift down low to get back up to my strip. Never got above 1700 prop rpm to climb 1,000' from the valley, nice and quiet too. The first dead stick flight of the year, and not the last I hope.

Off to Montana tomorrow AM.

Still flying off my Phase 1 time. I took a ride over the Sierra foothills and waved to the houseboaters on the lakes. Here's a couple of shots as I'm climbing out of Lake Don Pedro.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Found some new ones yesterday...the little ranch is awesome! Deep grass and a really nice ranch owner. His comments were "your the first person to come in and ask if you could land". I figured it would be ok when they were waving at me while circling. Needless to say they were very nice folks and happy to see someone.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I went out yesterday to scout an area where I'm planning a 60+ mile hike with a Venture Scout Crew that I work with. There was so much snow and it has been pretty cool here in the Northwest that I wanted to make sure we were ready for what the conditions are.

It was a beautiful flight and great weather. The terrain is pretty rugged, as far as Washington goes...

Just after departure from KAWO and we found Mt. Baker was showing its beauty.

Image

Cruising over the Cascades, still plenty of snow...

Image

Looking for any backcountry strips, but...... nothing.

Ross lake and Diablo  lake:
Image

On the way home, we decided to get a close up of Mt. Baker @ 10,500 I snapped this one of the North face, just before the clouds covered the top.
Image
We saw several rope teams of climbers on the North side and a few on the South side. I couldn't zoom in close enough to get pictures of the climbers.

It was a pretty good flight and great scenery

Re: Where did you fly today?

Soggc, there is a air strip in the Cascades just below Cristal Mt. named Huckleberry Air strip. I built hiking trails there in the 70s. Some great hiking and a lot of Elk in the area. Great pics by the way...
