Re: Where did you fly today?

Yesterday July 18th. Terry (180) Tom (Super Cub) and me went out to hit some local grass. It was my 1st time into three of the strips. The wx was good. No wind, no sun in the eyes, no other airplanes in our way.

We did. Lehman, Auberge Des Fleurs, McKinnon, Sandy River, Eagle Nest Ranch, Holmlund

McKinnons is where the fly in cruise in will be Sunday the 24 of July. It is a great fly in. I will be there. Y'all should come!

Re: Where did you fly today?

180 driver we have a 1200' ranch strip with a ditch and fence on one end and a river and fence on the other at 7500'. Our Highlander uses about 1/2 of it, I never got the nerve to bring our Maule in. A friend brought his super cub in no problem but he hasn't gotten to where he will bring in his 180.

I did Leadville, Co. 9927MSL at 55* at gross in the Maule. It took every bit of 1200' maybe even more. I have never experienced anything like that before or since. I live at sea level. The same trip me and tadpole departed Mr Carpenters turf strip 8600MSL packed to the hilt. Good thing it was all down hill. [-X

Cheers...Rob

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew over Strawberry Reservoir in Utah today, and it was almost completely covered with low clouds. Probably not that cool for you guys on the west coast that get this kind of thing every morning, but it's a fun thing to see a lake in mountain valley all covered in clouds here. It will get some low clouds in the mornings, but I've never seen it this covered. Shot some video:

Re: Where did you fly today?

Won't have reliable web access for the next few days so I'll post where I'm going to fly. Heading out to Oshkosh in the morning. Should make it to Wyoming tomorrow, and then most of the way to Oshkosh on Friday. Should be on the ground at Osh Saturday before noon.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Here's one thing I see a LOT of. It drives me crazy, all the junk I see laying around, what with scrap metal at record highs. The local scrap yard will pay a min. of 200 bucks for each of these, and you don't even have to haul them in, they'll come get them! So, that's 2400 bucks laying there, it just seems like a hell of a waste. Maybe I am just flying too low?Image

It's only too low if more than one wheel is on the ground. Then it's a high speed taxi.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I need to start bringing my camera to work. Just a bit ago I went flying. I wanted to go check out Easton State. Nice flight up, had a few clouds over the lake when I got up there. Got to the strip and turbulence was picking up closer to the ground and it was gusting really good so I opted to not land. I then headed east to Cle Elum. Same deal. Was pretty smooth air once you got about 1500'AGL though. I ended up hopping over to the Natches River and flying along it back to civilization and Yakima. Good day for flying other than not being able to land a couple places I wanted to check out.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I didn't fly here today, but a few days ago. I flew an airline to San Jose, Costa Rica, and then met motoadve, who flew me to Nosara, in Guanacaste. We left just as it was legal light.

Took a flight to Delta and the smoke was getting bad. Went to Livengood, the visibility was greater then 15. Flew a long the pipeline to the Yukon River. 3.5 hours round trip. Good flight in the Stinson.

Where did you fly today?

Thursday night I again had the honor of flying my L-19 over the opening ceremony of the Moving Wall, displayed in my home town this weekend. Last time was May 2010 at LZ Lambeau in Green Bay. Off my wing was a OH-6 Loach crewed by 2 former USMC helicopter pilots who flew in Vietnam. Image

A short 5 minute flight from our grass strip to the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery Southeast of town. Made a pass over the event & then orbited overhead as the OH-6, owned by a friend of ours, made a pass-circled-hovered in salute to the wall, then 'headed West'. Im guessing several hundred were in attendance for the opening.

EDIT: Adding video I received this morning from a friend on the ambulance crew.
