After years of flying into this stip, I can say that I don't think I will ever be completely comfortable landing there in the skywagon. At 7,500 feet elevation and 1200 feet in length touchdown speeds are FAST! I would love to see how a supercub would do getting and out of my strip. I'm thinking a 20MPH slower approach speed would make the strip less of a nail-biter for me. I have a stock wing on my plane. You guys with the sportsman kit, please chime in re: your experience with real world landing speeds at high density altitudes... is it worth it? I've been debating adding a sportsman kit for years.
I don't have much experience with high DA.....so what ever this is worth?
I have the sportsman cuff. A friend went up with me a while back and helped me make a speed card. Around 100lbs under gross, and at 5000ft we found with 20,30 and 40 degrees flaps it would want to stall at 35 mph and that minimum controllable airspeed was 38 mph.
38x1.2 gives me an approach speed of 45mph, these numbers are statute mph.
