Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yesterday Stacey and I flew out to Half Moon Bay for lunch.

This picture is actually from a couple weeks ago when we tried going but ran into fog on the coast
Image

Yesterdays weather was much better though
Image

After lunch we went on a ride down the coast for a few miles.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Cool pics Rob! That's another Big city area I'd like to fly around someday and airport hop. Especially the Sonoma area!

Sonoma Skypark (0Q9) I think is a great airport to fly to on the weekends. There's a huge business park (Wine Country Industrial Park) to the north of the field (walking distance) that has winery shops throughout with wine tasting and food on the weekends. But, I'll double check.

Sonoma Valley (0Q3) looks kind of cool, too.

I haven't been to either of those airports yet, but I'm sure I will eventually. Maybe next weekend!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Rob, I'm impressed! Never figured with all of the controled airspace could you fly SF Bay area and over Alcatraz. Nice pictures.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yeah you just have to be very sure of where you are and where the controlled airspace begins. You can fly right over downtown San Francisco, Alcatraz, and the Golden Gate Bridge. I flew under, over, and directly next to the airspace from 6 different towered airports during yesterdays flight.

What's with all the sunshine and great flying weather? You're going to make me think it doesn't rain all the time in other parts of the country.

Courierguy, post pictures of your pre-heat setup when you get your mods together.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Its sunny every day in "Kalifornia" isn't it? Sure does seem like at times.

This one was a fun today. One way in and one way out. When departing its 300' or so to the left turn and another 300' past the that. You can run your mind through the landing just opposite with everything going right (no go around). This is sort of an example as to why you would want a tail low or high (not 3 point) attitude into the corner IMO. Good times...

+1 for Sonoma Skypark - one of the friendliest fields I've ever been to - all the more so if you show up in something cool/old/tailwheel. Take the 170 in there Rob and no doubt you'll get a warm reception. Very easy to catch a ride into town, no shortage of good restaurants around the square. They also mentioned that camping under the oak tree on the east end of the field is good to go - nice picnic table there, tie downs are right alongside a vineyard. Only catch is the fog there but usually afternoons are good.

You know Vick, now that you mentioned that. I met the airport manager a few years ago. Super cool guy! I have never flown into this airport. My first visit was when I ran into town from the race track (Infineon Raceway). I past the first two roads north into town and took the road that passes the airport into town. Well, you know me. I had to stop in to check the airport out and found that there was plenty of room to park my rig by the airport in the business park next door. Long story short...... when you drive the rig to the track past 10pm and before 7am, there's nowhere to park at or close to the track. So then I would just go to the air-park and park for the night. I did this a few times and ended up meeting the airport manager and showing him the rig. He even said that if the owners of the business park next door ask me to leave, I could just park in the dirt parking lot next to the terminal. That was pretty cool of him!!

I never had any issues with the Wine Country Industrial Park. I actually met the manager of that place too early one morning. Cool guy, but he didn't dig me rinsing my rig off with plain water (no wash soap) after the long drive up from SoCal. I said in a joking manner...... "But I'm using organic whale piss". I think he got a chuckle from that. But he didn't kick me off the property. Just told me to shut the water off and explained why (long story).

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went out to Chicken Strip for the Halloween Pot Luck. Turned out it wasn't until 4:30 so I wasn't able to stay. Not as many people there as I expected. I saw Lee and thanked him for moving the rocks before we arrived with the work party.

As you can see the Samurai is parked beside me with the "V" drag still attached. Watch the left side of the runway as the drag left some groves at the very left edge. The groves are no problem. He wouldn't want to move that thing beside the runway rather than on the runway. Mark my words we have not heard the last of this.

Flew over the hills yesterday morning and did a couple of laps at two of the easier strips on Aktahoe1's North Circuit.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went flying last Friday to drop off some aerial pictures I took for a rancher (who lets us use his pasture to land on). There's a nice little 450ft spot to land on, but I ended up landing in about 470ft and "put a little mud on the tires". With 31" bushwheels it was a non event, but it did sure make a mess (that was some nasty mud!)

Hey at least it wasn't frozen mud. Looks like a good time! (until the clean-up anyways)
