Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Desert Rat: I turned away from the river about 18 miles West of those coordinates. I am not familiar with the strip you are talking about. Alot of the ranches along the river have strips that are not listed. Too damn rough to drive in and out all the time. This country has been divided up, and sold as "Ranchitas", and some of the purchasers have built strips.

There is a small community about 15 miles East, Langtry, where Judge Roy Bean conducted his type of court. Named himself the "Law West of the Pecos". The Pecos River runs into the Rio Grande about 10 miles farther East.

Sorry for the ramble.

Yes looking at the video I would say 18 miles is right. The "ranch" that you flew over near the end appears to be one a number of groups of buildings in that area. Obviously a lot of cattle grazing there. There are actually two airstrips close together. I suspect they are private. Just the sort of place I like to find. Thanks for the info.

Who's flying the little black airplane you're following? They're scared to land there too. They sure like to fly right down on the deck though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Went out for a short fly this afternnon before sundown. Ed took his single seat Pitts up just to bore holes in the sky. Got to watch him do Hammerheads, loops, and rolls from the front seat of my Citabria. We then both did low passes on a friends 1100ft strip. Good evening just to fly.

Re: Where did you fly today?

There are quite few rocks in the area with the glyphs on them.
Not a bad pairing to fly with the 701. I set up a mid-range cruise and I was able to fly over 2 hours on 7 gallons of gas. It was a very fun day of flying.
Here's a clip of the approach and landing.

Thanks.
Here is the departure. I have to get a strut mount to get rid of some of the glare.

Or between Winslow and Flagstaff :D :D

Edit: Actually, the crater is closer to Winslow (about 14-15 miles). It's about 32 miles from the Flagstaff airport

This looks like a Sears and Roebuck house that I grew up in ...late 1800's Sears sold houses. They were square with a big wrap around porch......thanks for the picture, brought back some memories :)

Re: Where did you fly today?

Yesterday we tried to go camping at Gravelly Valley but the mountains looked socked in. So we decided to fly out to Columbia instead where the weather was great. We had to wait for some fog to burn off in the valley this morning so we flew to Calaveras County, Westover, Placerville and Rancho Murieta. It was a great morning for flying in the foothills. Not so much for Rio Vista. The ceiling eventually raised to 600ft with 4 miles vis and we snuck in under the clouds.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Hey Rob:

What time did you leave out of O88 yesterday? I was in there around 1:30 to play in the steady crosswind on 25......Didn't look like you had been out yet. Weather was great yesterday for getting instrument current, and not much else north and west of Sacramento. Oh well, at least got 4.2 hrs in the plane, shooting a half dozen approaches and a dozen and a half crosswind landings in. Today it didn't open up until almost 3 out here at Lodi. Tomorrow doesn't look much better.

Great pic! Glad the camping was good at Columbia!
