Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Catching a warm sunny fall day at Stave Lake, hot dogs after a morning of chainsawing to beat the encroaching bush back. Take it when you can, I see Solander Island (Daedaluscan territory) now blowing (updated) sustained 75 knots with gusts 90.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Other than cleaning bugs off, I can’t take any credit - my buddy Dave rebuilt it from a wreck in 2005 - I picked it up at the end of April - have about 110 hours in it now…
This was taken before the 8.50x6s went on…

A herd of elk in a nearby farmer's field. These critters were enjoying a nice fall day near Sequim, Washington

Pistol Creek to spend a few days flying, watching wildlife, watching the air taxi guys, and helping my friend rebuild his cabin.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Afton Wyoming, to pick up some hardware at a farm supply store and for breakfast, BUT......there was not a single cafe in town open! They can't get help. My decades long choice seems to be closed permanently, and my backup cafe (which is about 1 mile away, as opposed to right across the street for my usual place) mean I needed to take the e Montague, and IT was also closed, though it may have just been in anticipation of a post Halloween night hang over of the staff.

At least I could hit the farm store for my hardware, and seeing this young lady with her "pet on a leash" (I researched the three major farm supply stores in my area, knowing all allow dogs, but two specify "dogs on leashes are welcome", this raccon friendly biz's site says "all (ALL) pets, on leashes, are welcome. So this pair found a legal loophole and slipped thru it, excellent. =D> Exploiting this loophole in their company pet friendly statement would be fun: take a goat, calf, sheep, hell a pony, just have them on a leash and you're golden! Anyway, this fat racoon and it's handler made the flight for me, cheered me right up after the horror of finding no place to eat. If I wasn't a pilot, I wouldn't have seen this.Image

Pistol Creek to spend a few days

Do any Paulsen's still have a cabin there? I was a friend of Dick, son of Allen, back in the 1990's when I hung out at McCall some. Always liked the hike from Indian Creek upstream past Pistol.

I don’t know, I only know my friend (Lanham) and talk with a few of the caretakers once in awhile, but they change about every year seems like. Neat place though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I'm curious why the Cub's gear is down in flight?
Even operating on land at each end of the flight,
doesn't that violate retract protocol?

Maybe he had to lower the gear on the Cub so the Cessna could keep pace? :^o

Re: Where did you fly today?

Me and Captain B flew down to El Paso and Marfa, TX and dropped in on Scalywag at his ranch. He’s not on here as much as he used to be, but seems to be well. Too many cattle to catch and we got too many pebbles to wrestle! Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

Ice is finally getting there (been a very poor year for ice thickness due to heavy snow cover) and ice road plowing season is starting. So checked out the one on north Gull yesterday.
