But, the passengers in that airplane will appreciate a slip/skid ball at the very least.

A ball, in one form or another. That's what I was implying. I've got a ball in the Airbus I fly. Ball and airspeed. I wasn't talking about partial panel stuff. Ball and airspeed. And coffee.
Yeah, I figured, just had to poke at it....
But, those Rieker ball bank gauges are cheap and they are actually TSO'd.

Kyle: Here is a pic of my flap tunnel done in the paint above. It was just intended as a quickie until I get around to a more thorough interior rehab, but I've come to like it how it is. If it was to be permanent, there are a few thin spots that could do with more coverage, but that also goes to show that it can be a pretty forgiving finish.

The Atlee seas are the best mod I have made. In practice one would have been enough 99% of the time.
I got lucky with an Alaskan breaker. I think 90% of Alaskan 100 series Cessnas have them installed, and sadly some get used up every year. I paid about half retail and they were like new with all the bits and seatbelts. STC was $100 I think. Just keep calling.
Another idea is to cut the original seat in half. Never seen it done but someone suggested it to me. And maybe go ceconite.
I have the Selkirk tunnel cover, and it works fine, but pulling the goo off and painting the tunnel would be a cheaper solution.

Those are similar to the stock late model 185 rear seats, though the seat backs look a lot narrower than the stock seat backs.
In any case, though, these would require a field approval if installed in a 170. The FAA looks on seats as pretty important structure. Nonetheless, I would think that a field approval would be pretty straightforward.

Thanks for the ideas guys. As for the flap tunnel, mine currently has the old glue all over it, need to spend the time to get that off, put carpet back over or the selkirk cover. I have a basic blue themed interior with all the carpet from a salvage 170. The side panels and such are acutally really nice, not a fan of the carpet for the tunnel or the floor carpet.
lower panel is back from the screen printer, installing switches and gadgets with all new wiring. Major thing left to do besides start putting it fully together is put a Sportsman's kit on the wings and paint of some sort still. Was going to just leave it all polished with just that sweat equity to save all the cost but its looking like probably painting the wings, tail surfaces and maybe top of cowling flowing underneath and leaving the rest polished.

Kyle: Here's another flap tunnel option. I haven't personally seen it, but I've had helpful interactions with the company, and their floor and foam samples are nice quality. Pretty sure they said you can buy just the flap tunnel cover without the rest of the floor.

As of a couple days ago, they had a completed 185 floor on sale (including Atlee rear seat track cutouts, and backing foam). Something they made and the customer didn't follow through with. Look on their "One-of-a-Kind" web page. Of course they also have stock 170B floors.

Looking for advice on a compass. I have come across the SIRS Navigator windshield mount compass or the pedestal mount (glareshield mount). Good compass or any reason not to use one? Lots of standard airpath compasses out there for cheap. Kind of like the idea of it on the windshield for some reason..

The SIRS Navigator is what I put in my 170 and most around here that have them, have the same. The beauty of it is that you can mount it many ways. The windshield is where I mounted mine as the v-brace is in the way for a glareshield mount. As far as the quality goes, it is awesome. Would buy another if the need arises.

Thanks for the quick reply. So if you buy the windshield mount version and realize you want to mount it on the glare-shield you can switch the mount I'm guessing? Just buy the other mount?

I put a SIRS windshield mount in my 170.
The mount will flip for mounting on the glare shield
Worked fine in top of windshield for me

compass is solved, going to find a SIRS to put in it I think. Thanks for the help there.
Next question: Firewall blanket. REALLY wish I would have thought about this before installing my panel..and control tee. Anyway what do you guys recommend for a cost effective firewall blanket? Have browsed through Aircraft Spruce a bit. Right now it is just the bare firewall with the old glue still there. Ready to start running and hooking up cables through the firewall but suppose I should tackle this first or it will be a realllly big headache

For the firewall order some black 1/2 closed cell foam from Selkirk Aviation. Make a template out of thick construction paper then transfer it to the foam and cut it out with a razor blade. You probably want to clean the old glue off the firewall, prime and paint it before glueing the new foam on.

Yep. 1/2" foam is the way to go. Nice and quiet... AND it comes with the proper burn certs. I'd clean the old glue off as Rob said. The most important thing to do is make sure all the metal underneath is properly treated before you put the new glue on. Good luck!
