Shot of 77D with a visiting friend. New 8's on the mains, and a 6 on the nose with a Cessna 310 fork. Makes a big difference with big boy shoes . . .

Can't see the backcountry tee shirt logo due to the sylish survival vest - but it's there

SH, I think we might need to add a tailwheel to that thing. :) Maybe it's just an illusion but it looks like your tail is mere inches from the ground?

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Zane, I could be talked into it, but the Missus? not a chance in hell . . . [-X

The plane is parked on the side of the runway with the nose on a pretty good upslope, so it does look like a TD (pretty too!).When I went to the larger nosegear, the mechanic told me I had a choice in regards to keeping the nosestrut itself stock, or cutting it 3" to maintain the same deckangle. He suggested I leave it stock for extra prop clearance, so I did. It is a big difference, so I might change the mains to 8.50x6's to decrease the angle a little. Oh, and add a tail skid to protect the tie down ring

Here's my 90hp 7FC Champ. That's right, it used to be a tricycle gear but sometime back in the 60's after they had cracked it up for the fourth or fifth time somebody got wise and put the third wheel back where it belongs. She ain't no barn burner or concours winner but does okay and is a heck of a lot of fun.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Noob here, but I used this site to do some research before buying my first plane, a Stinson 108-1. I've been building an RV-7 since '07, but progress has been slow the last couple of years after becoming a 3 seat family. The Stinson will serve several different functions- trainer (still working towards my PPL), family hauler, time builder, and hopefully backcountry plane :D

Before the flight home:
Image

After some polishing- it won't be perfect by any means, but should be an OK 50-60' paint job
Image

And the powerplant of the future- a Franklin 220 FWF off a maule M5, including the CS prop :D
Image

I welcome any wisdom and advice anyone is willing to give

Good job mister. One of my favorite airplanes, favorite engines and the place you live ain't bad either. Start collecting cylinders and parts for that 220.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Thanks! We actually got it from your neck of the woods (Carson City). I think it'll be a while before before the 220 goes on, but I would like to get my hands on a copy of an STC for the swap so I'll know what I'm in for :)

Welcome to the world of Stinson ownership. My wife and I have really enjoyed ours for the past 2 1/2 years. If you haven't already, subscribe to the Stinson Yahoo group, and the International Stinson Club. Both are fantastic resources with most of THE Stinson gurus as regular contributors. With that 220, some 8.50x6 tires, and VGs you will have an amazing short field airplane that will remain easy to handle. Enjoy!

Saw this plane at Troutdale, OR, today.

Oops, moved to hideous paint jobs!

Thanks Rob/Stacie.

Re: Photo thread: Show Us Your Plane!

Finally figured out how to load pictures, I think. My plane is a Wag Aero Sportsman 2+2. It was built in Canada 6 years ago and I have owned it for three. The plane has far more ability than I. I also have wheel skis for it.
Here we are taking off on the Wood River south of Fairbanks

Here it is at Hook Point on Hinchinbrook Island in Prince William Sound:

I finally put it on floats this year. At Robe Lake in Valdez:

Finally convenient for both the rainbow and the duck to show up for this picture:

Dang. That wasn't so hard. Almost feel like a computer programmer. Almost.

8.50's on the mains would also get the nose back more into alignment and help with landing mains first. You shouldn't have to swap the brakes for double pucks either with the 8.50's.
