Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

Man that black stuff looked terrible, mine was more of a brown hard glue. After striping off all that glue it will be real hard to glue any insulation back on. Looks great though!

[quote="aktahoe1"]Nice work.

Also noticed your lines are coming in over the strut. Have always put mine under the strut. Is there a correct way? Have always thought that routing them under was correct.

The Cleveland wheel drawing suggest under, where did you get the SS lines?

SS brake lines were sourced through Sacramento Sky Ranch.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

So, just to clarify. Are you guys using teflon braided steel hose to replace the hard line? Just commenting and not being critical, but long lengths of flexible braided steel line have been known to cause spongy feeling brakes. :( My 185 has pretty beat up hard lines form all the years of float/wheel changes and I too have been considering the options. #-o

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

Currently I have hard lines down the legs, and SS to replace the old hard rubber lines. I had the same on the C170 but new hard lines. No experience w/ what Kevin is running, although I suspect we will put new hard lines back after the new year.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

Started thinking about floor mats today... I used AIP Source for the C170 with great success and I think I will use one of their products again. Aerofloor DOT is my choice. Super light and durable.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

I put that exact SCS interior vinyl in my wagon. I needed to do a small bit of trimming, but overall, I'm satisfied with the product. Interestingly, the carpet that I removed weighed about 7 lbs. The vinyl I put back in weighed 7 lbs.

Also, the fit of the pre-cut kit at its most forward point under my feet was not perfect. I could have used a bit more width than they gave me and now there is some unsightly metal floor visible along the edges.

I've noticed that vinyl flooring is great for some things and not so great for others. Wet boots (usually from snow that melts off them once inside) will leave water puddles that will drain aft and run into my baggage area. Things getting wet back there never happened when I had carpet as the water would absorb and stay put. Dirt and small rocks do the same and travel around in the cabin until they fall between a crack. Carpet would trap the dirt better and then you could remove it and shake it out.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Continues...

Didnt want to ruin the four nice sheep skins by tearing them apart for upholstery, so I found a good set (same model year) of fronts from Wentworth. Going to restore the new set pilot and copilot, then put the fronts and backs on eBay. If you are interested in the set of 4, shoot me a PM. I will include the rear seat tracks w/ the seats and a copy of my 337. Backs have headrests, fronts do not. Pilot is adjustable, copilot is not.

Damn you nailed those 170 seats..I don't care for the supple, loose style showcased on his site but I'm sure you've got the new design dialed too!

Now I just have to learn how to fly. No, seriously.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

Thanks. I actually think I am going to go with the exact same color combo for the Skywagon. It really was my favorite part of the C170 and I miss it. Lame? Perhaps. Buy why fix something that aint broke?

All you do is take take take...

Stripped the new seats down and inspected. Good to go. Powdercoat next, then off to Ron Matta for his magic.

Removed 35.9 lbs of front seats out. Interesting: Weight difference between articulating seat and standard - 3.5 lbs. The goal will be to have the new (and way better) seats weigh in at 25 lbs.

Re: New C180H - The Madness Begins...

I know I have been keeping quite and flying low RE: the project (sorry for being a tease - more to come at a later date) but some of the big brush strokes...

Stripping the exterior started today. Hope to loose at least another 25lbs with the paint gone. Its gonna look nice polished!
