I definitely planned insulating the wing roots well, but the rear baggage wall I hadn't considered. It would be easy enough to put some foam on the back side of the rear cover. Thanks for the idea.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Rob, I did the same and covered the entire backside of my ext baggage. Also, I Added a 1x1 piece in the center of each panel all the way back to the last station. This mitigates any vibration or harmonic causing noise. Easy enough to do with the scrap thats left over from the install.

Nice work rob! On the skylane, the wingroots were the hardest pieces to get right.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Thanks, Jared. It's harder than it looks for sure. Pieces like this that have curving lines and different cut outs definitely take some time to get right.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Here's a few more pics from the hangar tonight. I try to get out there for at least a couple hours every night during the week to get something done. The windshield is installed with the exception of the center strap, I'm waiting on some acrylic drill bits first. Also the interior foam is almost all done except for a few sections where I had to plug holes. I got the plugs in the mail today and put them in along with some RTV Silicone to seal them up. Tomorrow the foam should be all done except for the areas around the D windows in back. I've been tinkering with all sorts of other stuff while I'm out there and I think it's shaping up nicely,

Here is one of the holes I had to plug, this one from the venturi

I installed some cargo tiedown rings, I'm into these about $1.30 each for the 1" steel ring, adel clamp, and 10-32 screw.

You should have several fittings in the floor where you can mount some of these. Most are 10-32 thread but a couple of them are 1/4-28. This is a nice cheap option instead of buying the cessna tiedown rings listed in the parts manual. I've seen those listed for sale for $50+.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Looks awesome Rob! That is going to be a sweet setup when you are finished. Are you using the 3m Super Trim Adhesive like they suggest at Selkirk? And if so, are you applying it to both the rubber and the airframe? We did that with our door panel and it worked great, but we had to mask off a stuff to spray the glue on the door. How are you doing that in tight places like the wing root and in front of the door by the panel?

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Yes I've been using the 3M supertrim adhesive that Selkirk reccomends. I apply it to both the foam and the airframe and it seems to bond very well. They reccomend using 3M 1300 for the ceiling areas, apparently its illegal to sell in California so I couldnt get a hold of any. For the ceiling I applied some 3M 3M 08001 which I had on hand for the door seals, I ran it down the rivit lines and zigzagged it across the panels, then I sprayed some supertrim adhesive to both the ceiling and the foam. The spray is pretty easy to predict where its going but in tight areas I just held up a piece of cardstock that I had left over from making templates to block any overspray.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Another way to apply the spray glue to the airframe without overspray is to apply a nice heavy coat to the insulation piece, then put it in place and tamp down thoroughly. Then, pull it off right away leaving glue on both surfaces with no overspray.

Very nice work Rob, looks awesome with the new(old) paint/polish scheme!! Your moving right along!!
