I also really like the rails for tie down points, and a quart of oil sits right behind the doorpost inside the side rail:)

Good idea on the oil!

DP, I also noticed that the rails really beef up the floor which is great.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

I got the right side seat completely installed last night and I got most of the work is done for the left side. Now i just have to paint a couple parts and then it can go back together.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

After a nice break this weekend at the Powers fly-in, it's back to work on the 170. Despite the 100 degree temps I went out to the hangar and finished the jump seat install.

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

Hey rob, did you make a template of your panel or have a drawing file saved?

Re: Project: Cessna 170B

No I'm sorry I don't have a template. We used the old panel for a guide and then cut the holes out with a hole saw. The square holes for the iPad mount and the slip indicator I had a metal shop laser cut them out. The panel will be in and out a couple times most likely. I can trace it out on some thick paper and send it to you if you want a template for your 172.

This is how we made Robbie's new instrument panel we use the old subpanel as a guide for the shape add on a little bit here and there and just went from there. You don't need any stinking cad file or or anything like that. It's not that hard to make you just lay it out, and get everything nice and square, get a 2 inch whole saw, a 2 1/4 inch whole saw, and a 3 1/8 inch whole saw, a instrument drill jig and you need a bandsaw and a disc sander and a drillpress I don't recommend a hand drill. The iPad mount we had laser cut to make a nice square hole after all I was 600 miles from home and I didn't have access to a good shop.

That would be awesome rob! I plan to do a panel this winter and I love your ipad setup. I dont need anything precise, it would just be nice get all the hole locations close, knowing that they clear everything behind the panel. I have access to a cnc plasma table that I plan to use for mine, and it just so happens that one of my buddies owns a powdercoating business. Thanks again!
