My Scout had a worn stained carpet and old wood floor. Replaced it with carbon fiber. Easy clean up and scratch resistant. Also doesn’t soak up water from wet boots. The snaps are screwed into the carbon and the cover is snapped on. You need the quick release rear stick.

Is that the size shape of the standard extended baggage? The trapezoidal door?

Mine (as soon as I can get it here) only has the rear baggage door not the extended baggage, any photos or details of the size and how hard the factory extended baggage retrofit would be appreciated.

I expect to do a lot of solo camping trips so most of the time it won’t be an issue. But it would be nice to be able to get longarms or fishing rods in the rear and out harms way if I’m two up.

A dealer has a few cool videos of the scout, and explains the ext baggage:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMffWmOEMcM&t=374s

Mine is a field approved one that is approximately the same door dimensions as factory, but 48" deep.

Bad image, but if you look for it, you can see where the compartment is relative to the airframe components:

I have a safaristraps cargo net.
High quality & very reasonably priced to boot.
I use it to block off the front of the extended baggage in my C180.
Its not quite as handy as I thought it would be though, re hooking & adjusting the straps.
A guy from the 180 FB page (I think) is selling stretchy cargo nets on ebay, they look handy.
They're 27" x 27", a bit too small for my use, but I might get one if/when he offers a slightly larger size.

This is the extended baggage from ACA. The picture above is the size of the inside door which opens down.

I had a Scout (2008) on 2100A floats (2009) for 9 years. Both purchased new from factory. TT 430 hours. Loved the little ship.

Re: Scouting

My tail spring was pretty tired, showing a bad caster angle and it shimmied the 1 time I tried a 3point. Figure I might as well address that during isolation.
Image

Since the tailwheel had to come off, and it looked like shit cosmetically, I decided to address that too. Upon inspection, the tailwheel head is an ABI unit that was originally their "tan" color, painted over in white. The wheel is ABI, originally their black color, also painted over in white. The fork was a cleveland I suppose because it was grey painted over in white. I don't like white, I like black when it comes to wheel/gear. Tan would be okay too. I decided to do black. We'll see how long it lasts. I got most of the old paint off, but the ABI tan/black was stuck pretty good so I just got it smooth/scuffed and went with it. We'll see how long it lasts. It was $10. If it doesn't last, I'll deal with it later. I'll be buying a new larger fork in a month or so and will leave than the ABI tan color.

The internals were all good. Three different colors of grease in there.

It's seen a hard life... Those dings on the leading edge are not shallow.

Re: Scouting

How did you fix the castor angle? Shims or Did you replace the tailspring or rebend it?

Honestly I went back and forth in my head for a week. I have a hydraulics press at work so I could re-bend, but the guy next door to me has a 2016 scout and his tailspring just broke which then meant his rudder took the weight of the tail and had to be replaced. Looking at his new spring, it's substantially more angled than mine and his plane sits up higher because of it. People say they re-bend tailsprings all the time... other people say they get weaker and fail, blah blah blah..... I also considered the T3 but it isn't approved "quite yet" and I probably don't need it anyway. I ended up ordering a new one from ACA. I plan to bend the old one as an experiment and keep it on hand.

I just sort of decided that I'd rather pay the $200 now instead of having it fail in AK and be in a bad situation.

Re: Scouting

I had the T3 on my last plane (experimental). It worked great. Certified-go with certified parts.

ACA and Super Cubs North say ACA is working on adding it to type certificate like all the other scout upgrades. When that happens, and my new spring is already toast, I'll start saving my allowance.I doubt I personally can really justify it.

Re: Scouting

This is a much better spring than what came on the scout, or what Univair sells. I had put on on my Scout after trying new springs from ACA and Univair.

I didn't see that one until the day I ordered mine. What is better? It's different construction I noticed. I can still return the ACA one if it's noticeably better.

Re: Scouting

It uses thicker leafs. Much stronger, and stiffer, made my shimmy go away. And the mounting brackets that came with it were beefier as well. Much better set up.

Finished up the tailwheel project. I think it's a major improvement.

Also got my cargo net in from Safari Straps, very satisfied. Fits behind front seat or behind back seat. Plan to cut off the adjustment straps on the top mounting points to use small shackles or carabiners instead.
