I serve as a part time voluntary mine inspector for the Bureau of Mines, this was my latest inspection the other day. About a 1/2 mile hike from where I landed on the ridge, the outside of the mine looks appropriately
abandoned and in obvious disrepair. The inside appeared to have been recently secured, to keep, unlike myself, unauthorized people just out wandering around OUT. They did a real good job, as you can see, but the thing I find interesting is if the intent was to permanently block off the entrance, it could have been done cheaper and quicker. The steel door has hinges on the inside, and a lock, all constructed in such a way so that even if you had a cutting torch or a skinny wheel grinder it'd be a bitch opening. The support posts look pretty new also (how'd you like to have that job?) all in all I was a little baffled as to what was going on here

Maybe still in operation? Damn, there has to be easier ways to make a living.
