Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Man it is GREEN there right now. Doesn't look like the waterfall is trying very hard though.

Re: Where did you fly today?

I've been looking forward to "bagging" this airstrip for a while. Took my family to KTEX for the weekend and had a wonderful time escaping from the summer heat. Already looking forward to a return trip.

Telluride just beyond the mountains.

Re: Where did you fly today?

hazy warm summer day in Michigan. I flew up the lakeshore to Frankfort then across Grand Traverse Bay to Charlevoix...

Beautiful day looking at the lakeshore...but the heat gave me a very bumpy ride back to Grand Haven. I didn't want to go back along the lakeshore as there were some ugly looking radar returns from the middle of lake Michigan by this time...but certainly worth the trip, logged 3.1 hrs total

Re: Where did you fly today?

Didn't log much time on the plane today, but flew over to a neighbors for a fly in breakfast. He lives 5NM away from me, so it took more time to taxi and take off then it did to actually fly there. There was a few meat planes there. A fairly newly built sonex, a french nosewheel plane with slats and a tail very similar to a wilga, never got a pic and forget the name, but apparently there is only 10 of them on this side of the ocean. A nice beech 18 also made an appearance, man those twin 985s sound awesome! Great morning.

No destination, just a local flight...

...but I broke the sound barrier, did some high-G aerobatics, and got a low-level target run demo. It was a fun flight :-)

Re: Where did you fly today?

I serve as a part time voluntary mine inspector for the Bureau of Mines, this was my latest inspection the other day. About a 1/2 mile hike from where I landed on the ridge, the outside of the mine looks appropriately
abandoned and in obvious disrepair. The inside appeared to have been recently secured, to keep, unlike myself, unauthorized people just out wandering around OUT. They did a real good job, as you can see, but the thing I find interesting is if the intent was to permanently block off the entrance, it could have been done cheaper and quicker. The steel door has hinges on the inside, and a lock, all constructed in such a way so that even if you had a cutting torch or a skinny wheel grinder it'd be a bitch opening. The support posts look pretty new also (how'd you like to have that job?) all in all I was a little baffled as to what was going on here  Maybe still in operation? Damn, there has to be easier ways to make a living.

Brett and Drifter, thanks! It was an absolute blast. I got lucky and didn't start feeling G-queasy until we were taxiing back for shutdown!

Patuxent River NAS. They're part of the Naval Test Pilot School.

EDIT: no sense for a new post!

Flew a BK117C2 today, no pics though. There's no real room for pics during the training so I won't put much of those up.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew out to Merrill pass on Friday. Not the best place to land but it worked. I still need to figure the performance difference between a 182 and a super duper cub. The bear was not interested in leaving at all! After dragging the strip he ran over just to sniff my tracks. I felt safe after going for a climb up the wing and watching the griz running through the brush in the opposite direction.
