An hour away, to Copper Basin, west of Mackay, to what I think is the highest strip in Idaho, at 7920'. Always pretty secluded, this time was no different. Kind of a hazy looking sky but dead calm and smooth air. The pass coming in from the east is 9K, just real high terrain all around, for sure early in the morning kind of place, I was outa there, after I ran out of coffee, by 7:30. I hit it at least once a year, and have yet to see another plane there. Lot's of old mines (real spooky ones, as in you very easily fall into some of them, no warning signs either, this ain't no theme park

) Smiley Creek is behind those mountains in the background, more or less, that direction anyway, as is Hailey.
One way out is to follow the dirt road down hill all the way that dumps you out above the Mackay Res., you can just float on out of there as the descending terrain matches your throttled back glide. I timed it perfect, as being a work day I had to be in cell coverage and sure enough right at 8 I was "at work", or at least ready to take a call. The Mackay strip is a great resource, as if you land long on the north end, it is a 2 minute walk to a new upgraded cafe/gas station, I timed it. For those of us scrounging mogas enroute, it is a gem.
