I had aired downed the Airstreaks to 1.5 lbs prior to launching this morning, I was only going 3 miles away but 8600', and past experience up there has shown I want the tires real soft, lot's of embedded rock and shale. My place is at 5400', and I was climbing through 8,000' when the phone rang

A local HVAC contractor needed me and the crane at 9:15 at the big mall in town, it was 8:17.

This guy is an inactive/past pilot, and I think he get's a kick out of catching me playing and tries to get me "out of service". Ain't gonna happen!
I continued the climb, circled a few times over the ridge line, long enough to realize the winds would preclude messing around up there that day anyway, and then dove for home. Hauled ass into town and the crane yard in the car, "raced" across town, and at 9:18 I was setting the crane up. I take it for granted, but I have a pretty cool mix of real back country flying ops while still being able to make a living in the "city". Today was a mind twister, going from the mind set of the off airport hoped for landing, (getting all hyped up) to an hour later working in front of the mall in town, watching shoppers walk by to get their kicks in the store of their choice, different strokes for different folks!
