The wife and I camped by the Knik Glacier this weekend, found a good moose shed horn.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Today was my birthday, I started off the day with about a 2 hour flight up around the lake Berryessa area landing a couple new spots and many old ones. I came back with plenty of mud on the wings and some bushes stuck to the landing gear. Then for lunch I flew out with my wife and daughter to Half Moon Bay. Justin came along with his family in the 182. Now I'm drinking the growler of IPA I picked up at Half Moon Bay Brewing Co. Not a bad way to spend your 29th birthday!

With the low water levels I found this newly exposed road to land on.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Awesome, Rob! Happy Birthday!

I didn't have much left in the fuel budget after the Alaska trip, but I just couldn't pass up the weather this weekend in Idaho. Fantastic Indian summer weather!

My son and I camped at Cabin Creek and had a great time. We also landed at Soldier Bar this morning. Beautiful weather, and beautiful country.

Re: Where did you fly today?

We flew over to the breakfast the Idaho Aviation Foundation was putting on at Big Creek on Saturday. We left Friday with the intention of camping at Johnson Creek and then heading to Big Creek in the morning.

On our way East through the Cascades. It was a little hazy from a few small fires but overall there was not a single cloud in the sky in our whole trip East and West.

We left too late in the day so we ended up spending the night in Grangeville on the lawn at the airport. (Oh by the way, apparently we were not supposed to do that. Awoke to a dog wizzing on the tent in the middle of the night.  After washing the dog wizz off of the tent off we headed for breakfast.

Overhead at Big Creek before letting down in the canyon.

Short final at Big Creek (the Mrs. was shooting the photos)

The Mrs. enjoyed her first time there. She said she would be willing to go back and camp :D

This fatty was sitting on the ground when we refueled at Grangeville.

It was an awesome day for flying in the Pacific Northwest.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Well I just flew back home the other day...that was fun! But today I wanted to go do something other than cruise along at 11500Ft doing 140kts true burning 7.5gph! So Rob & I went flying up to lake Berryessa. The water is so low here in cali that some places are starting to show up....this was an old road. Rob had a problem, maybe not enough fuel, getting started at first...but we made it happen. We also got some really good air to air shots of his bird all nice and pretty. Overall it was a quick, but good night! I would say Rob had the more exciting time...err stressful ha

Re: Where did you fly today?

Tomorrow's crane job, down in the valley below my place. I landed there today to light a fire under the owner builder, as in "let's get this done FRIDAY". He mentioned earlier that he thought it would take into Saturday and I really want to go to the Black Hills Fly-in this weekend. Getting there late would be better then not at all! I also want to hit the BackCountry super cub plant in Douglas on the way back and see what's up with their LSA bird. It sucks being self employed, I have a hard ass for a boss, who puts work first, always. It is what pays for the flying, after, all. Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

I flew a bunch of kids for the Young Eagles at the Spanish Fork/Springville (U77) open house today - we gave 335 kids flights today. And while I was doing that, this is what Noreen did:

Re: Where did you fly today?

A pretty cool looking butte I stumbled upon in RanchPilot's neighborhood (sort of, we're talking hundreds if not thousands  of square miles), at least about an hour later I belatedly realized I had cruised within 20 miles of his place and failed to say hi #-o Hey, I knew Wyoming had a lot of remote country, not my first go round there, but geez the route from Douglas to Kemmerer over the Laramie Mts., gave me a new definition of REMOTE. Lots of places, almost all of it landable. If you have bushwheels and can't find a place to take a leak out in this country, you may want to hang it up. I mean, look at this...though in full GET HOME mode, I couldn't pass this and a few others up.Image

About 7500' LZ, those white things are sand dunes in the distanceImage

Image

First time I've noticed elk in the high desert, while antelope are everywhere.Image

When I landed here, I hadn't seen any sign of anything for 45 minutes or so at 95 mph, no oil rigs,(state animal), no nothing but killer views.Image

Re: Where did you fly today?

Great pictures of my playground Tom! Boar's Tusk is a 10 minute flight for me, and Essex (where you landed) is even closer. I hope you took the time to fly down through the bottom of the dunes--I try to make sure and do that a couple times a week whether I need to or not.

This is the Red Desert, part of the majestic Great Divide Basin. Believe it or not, it is one of the most sought after elk tags in southwestern Wyoming. Also plenty of pronghorn, including this one from this weekend (470 yard head shot with a 6.5 x 284 :) ).

Image

I'm only 30 minutes from Kemmerer, and I'm always more than happy to give any of my BCP buddies a guided tour through this area if you're ever passing by. Drop me a line!

Had to run down to the south end of the lake this afternoon to drop off a package at Maddens Resort. Let's see, drive or fly...

Just a washed out screen cap from some video I shot this morning, but it looks like it's going to be a good season for fall colors this year. Looking forward to seeing some of BRD's magic when the leaves start to turn there!
