Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Glad your track was south of those things! News reported that there was "chicken egg" sized hail in spots. Didn't know that was a classification. :D

Hey, this is Minnesota, one has to be prepared for snow 24/7/365... #-o
(actually, the guy who owns it likes flying his Husky more than anything else, so didn't bother changing back to floats on the Found this summer. Nowadays they head to Naples in October, so who knows if the thing will ever fly again??? :? )

Found this gravel bar strip and did some moose scouting. 600ft strip was no problem for the 182 and nil load.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Here's what I got to see over the nose this morning while looking for Bighorns. Saw 3 decent rams on this flight.

Headed up to the high country.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew up to Medicine Bow, WY 80V today to check out the strip. It was a little soft but very smooth.

When taxiing out, I managed to find the only gopher hole around and the right main went in. The tail flew up in the air and cocked the plane to the side but it did not strike the prop. My wing tip was much closer to the ground now, and the top of my 6.00x6 was about 4 inches under ground level so I couldn't get unstuck myself. After a couple mile walk into town, I found a couple people happy to hop in their truck and drive out to give me a hand.

The trip back home was uneventful other than storm dodging where I found some rain to wash off all the bugs and mud!

Haha I wouldn't mind some bigger tires, but maybe I should have said prairie dog hole. Regardless, I think it would've swallowed a 26 inch or anything smaller!

I started reading your post, and instantly flashed back to my experience at the same strip: I had landed my Kitfox1 to wait out some weather, and not until I parked by that same falling down hangar (still standing though!) did I notice NUMEROUS big ass holes. I then got out and retraced my tracks, and noted I had come very close several times to going into one...then I kept reading and had to laugh when I see the holes, like the hangar are still there! Kind of sneaky, it would never have happened to me in an off airport situation, I'd been looking harder, but I let my guard down. I also remember that day the Wyoming skeeters, even though the wind was blowing 30 mph, it didn't seem to bother them, still trying to figure that out. You dodged a bullet, good on ya. =D>

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just out dodging thunderstorms around the Shenandoah valley. It was hot and humid, so a great day for tubing on the river.

or getting back to home base before the storm. The rain hit just after I got the plane in the hangar

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flyhound,
Funny, I was hiking Old Rag in Shenandoah today and thought I heard a lone piston GA plane overhead. I was in a dense part of the trail and could see, wonder if it was you? I think it was sometime after noon. We started at about 1000 and finished around 1500.
