Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

The wife and I took the 180 on our first longish trip this weekend. We flew down to Swift Current, Saskatchewan for a wedding yesterday, and flew he today. The flight down was just over 4hrs, including a fuel stop, and flight back was about 5hrs 15 minutes. Had a good tailwind down and fought a headwind coming home. Ran about 25* LOP, and averaged 11.4GPH WOT (21MP) and 2300RPM @8500'. I'm pretty happy with that. Lots of my friends drove down to the wedding, and its a good 12-13hr drive. Flying down allowed me to work 2 extra shifts, and they burned more fuel in their pickups then I did in the plane, again solidifying the fact that flying is awesome!
This is at Red Deer airport. They must fix up these DC4s or something, lots of then there.

A slough that was pink, not sure what would cause that, all the rest were green.

My one buddy caught a ride home with me. After a hard week of harvest, a 12hr drive, and a wedding, he was pretty worn out.

Did a lunch run without any notable photos. But then a friend showed up with his Avenger after having spent the day at a nearby air show.

A1skinner,
That's Air Spray's head quarters. Zoom in on google maps I think there are 3 or 4 A26s in your photo too.

Haha Rich! I like the irony! Your "friend" in George Bush's Avenger.

Great sound too.

Bush never flew this specimen, his name is just a tribute. The plane does have some interesting history though. It was restored by Bob Odegaard of Duggy and Corsair fame.

Me, I just like that giant round engine on the front. :-)

Tom had it in the shop for a partial overhaul and some of the jugs were sitting on the bench. Impressive!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Tom, were you on board that B25 when they buzzed us over at Jefferson County sunday? An observation pass overhead, then a low pass each way. Awesome!

Re: Where did you fly today?

I was on it Saturday about 11:30AM take off from KPAE. We did go out towards Jeffco on one leg.

We were low due to the clouds and rain showers.

Being low like that was a great ride, I think I preferred those conditions to a severe clear day where they would have flown higher.

Re: Where did you fly today?

That's cool! My dad used to build B-25's before he went into the Navy.

I flew up to Hoover today in the Diablo range just south of Mt. Hamilton. Was going to do a reconoiter to see if it's landable. It's a little beyond what I'm comfortable with. Maybe if that red Mooney goes in first I'll follow.

Lordy, that is a big machine. How do you mount the bird? It looks like it could pull up next to a jetway to allow you to step into the cockpit. I think I'd need a new towbar to maneuver something like that around the hangar...

Where did you fly today?

Didn't really fly "anywhere" all weekend. A bunch of local flights. Took the gf up to zanesville to eat with the swinglemiester Friday night. Then he brought a buddy down to my place Saturday and we hopped around to some local landing zones. Then I was back in Zville today to check out some of the old buildings.

Yep that is "Gumpy" that John Sessions has at the HFF at Paine Field.

Here is the "back story" on the plane: http://historicflight.org/hf/collection ... backstory/

I was really lucky to get a ride. I don't think I have ever won a raffle before but won the ride at the Pacific NW Aviation Meeting in Feb.

Yeah, it's a bit of mountain climbing, isn't it...

I haven't actually been over to his hangar. We're on opposite sides of the field. So I don't know what he's using for a tug. I'll have to ask him.

Good for you Tom, sounds like fun! Yep, that was my dads B-25 before it went to England. He flew it when it came back into the US.

Flew 1.4hrs simulated instrument time today in an EC-145. It's a super nice IFR bird, especially since ours have a 3-axis AP :-)
