Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Looks like you have good ice in Minnesota! Cold over here in Lower Michigan, should be able to land on it now or at least soon. Below freezing for the next 2 weeks or so.

Nice Ross! You must have been out there an hour or so before I went by. Did you bring Zane with you? He needs to get out and see the sights.

I was out there from around 11- 2:30 with lunch in the middle.

Just me in my plane and a buddy in his CC.

Heard some chatter on 123.45 on the way in, not sure if it was you.

Wasn't me on fingers Saturday. I was sticking to .7 and keeping track of Brent out training in the green machine. Another lunch option on Gull this time of year is Ernie's on Squaw Point. You'll see all the sleds parked in front and it's a main sled trail terminus. About 1.5 / 2 miles south of QD. Although Walleye Dan appreciates your Quarter Deck business! :D

Lake Winnebago and lake Mi Wisconsin.

I was trying out the winter kit. It worked great.

It came with my plane. I could probably make a duplicate. There is some type of nut plate already installed in cowl

Re: Where did you fly today?

I flew around for a bit this morning to warm my oil before an oil change and stumbled on a Trident submarine being escorted back to Bangor Submarine Base from the Pacific Ocean. They don't advertise their arrivals and departures, so catching a picture like this is pure luck.

Went for a nice fly on Saturday and saw a bunch of trucks. A buddy and I got spotted from the ground as well. Nice day for a fly. ImageImage

Re: Where did you fly today?

Just thought to share. Out flying the frozen tundra of the NE over the weekend. Hitting a few spots near the Delaware River. Some stuck planes waiting for thaw… Very cool Superdog II also!

The two little ships shown escorting the boomer sub are known universally to all the puget sound based professional seaplane pilots as "The Twins". Any time you see them lingering alone near the Dungeness Spit you'll see an inbound sub surface if you hang around long enough.

Here's one that was docked at Naval Magazine Indian Island yesterday.
This is right across the bay from Port Townsend, WA,
which is a pretty liberal town, to put it lightly.
In fact, some years back, PT declared itself a "nuclear free zone"--
mainly in response to the occasional presence of nuclear powered navy ships like this in the bay.
It always makes me smile to see one of these bad boys tied up at the dock,
where they up- or off-load munitions on their way out to or back home from ocean patrols.
"Peace through superior firepower".

That boat is moored within plain sight of a town of 10,000 people, not exactly a secret. A town known to harbor many a counter culture type even. I’m sure someone up on that hill has a red telephone to a comrade.

My uncle was a boomer driver and was pleased as punch when we circled one of his boats in the beaver, got a real kick out of it.

Re: Where did you fly today?

My brother was supply officer on a boomer. That is where he got pretty fat. They had choice to eat coming back and he liked strawberry shortcake. He got his masters in nuclear engineering just before three mile island. But Uncle Ross took him on after the Navy.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Finally got out after a month! Took awhile to find a road where the banks were still under the Husky spades.
