Where did you fly today?

Did you fly somewhere cool, take photos, and feel like telling the tale to make us drool from the confines of our offices? Post them up!

Perfect day to watch the birds go by.

We lost "The Shepherd" yesterday after a long illness. Jerry Engelbrecht is a Minnesota aviation legend having solo'd the family J-3 at the farm at age 9. He was an aerial wolf hunter with his dad Art for many years (in the same PA-18-125 Cub the family had owned since 1960), served in Vietnam with the 7th Cavalry flying Cobra's and finished his career as Chief Pilot of the MN DNR. He was the best of the best. Blue skies and tailwinds Jerry, May God take you to Himself. You are missed.

More crosscountry than backcountry. Dodging tornadoes and ADSB airspace, slowing down below yellow arc for that rockin' mechanical turbulence.

Did a Run from Texas to Arizona and back to WI with a buddy from Alaska who needs flight hours. Left Thursday and returned tonight. Lots of flying. 25 hrs or so. We stopped at Marble Canyon L41 Friday night. Very nice spot. With food and motel. I tried my first couple back country spots. We had a great time. Tail winds all the way home from Moab UT.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Logged the first couple hours of dual transition training for insurance in my new to me CC Sport Cub. What a blast after a long winter here in Central, MN. First nice day in six months! Grass strip near KAXN.

Re: Where did you fly today?

The trees this time of year are pretty here in NW Iowa. This is just east of Sutherland Iowa and you can see a little of the Little Sioux River towards the right. Waterman Creek at left and more visible. A friend of mine used to find arrowheads in this area. Wish they would have left the railroad bridges through this valley for a great bike trail.

Re: Where did you fly today?

Flew to Orcas Island to pick up a pilot friend that is also a sailor. That seems to be a pretty common combination up in the Pacific Northwest. How common is it for pilots to also sail elsewhere in the country? The picture is turning base to final for runway 26 at Eastsound on Orcas Island.

Re: Where did you fly today?

The weather was just too nice to pass up yesterday, so I just had to visit a couple of our semi-local strips here in southern/central Oregon: Toketee and McKenzie Bridge. We've hit peak green here after a much needed unusually wet spring/early summer.

I really appreciate the work of the RAF on these strips. Both of them now have super deluxe fire rings with grills. Very nice!

Re: Where did you fly today?

Not so much where I flew, which is basically my back yard, but what I flew... Fshaw's 172, which might be a yawner for some, but it's the first thing bigger that a Champ or Cub I have flown in over three years. After a little ticker surgery in 2019 I have been light sport until this spring when I got my 3rd class SI (Hence the lack of photos over the winter). Thanks to the folks on this forum that reached out after my surgery. Did a bunch of pattern work (Thank you Cessna for designing such stout landing gear) and then took my wife up for a quick spin. Turns out now she wants a bigger plane again BUT loves the Champ and wants to keep it. To be continued...
