I go for the flying but I wouldn't go if I couldn't get my fly rod working...Haven't been up there for the fourth of July ever but have been there as late as the last week of July.. Weather is fantastic most of that month with maybe a few showers but the bigger worry then is fires..Left JC one year with permission of Fire Air Boss who was fighting a fire in Yellow Pine.. He cleared me for a immediate turn to the south after takeoff and I was gone..that said I hope you all have great weather... and if anyone gets up to Elk City say hello to Curt for me... He lives at the strip...We were SDPD together years ago.... :D

We'll make sure to say "hi" for you. Curt, after chatting with us for 15 minutes or so after we landed there last year, insisted that we take on of his four wheelers when he learned we were going to walk down to get huckleberry pancakes. Our little boy loved his dogs. Really nice guy. We are looking forward to seeing him again.
He doesn't do that for everybody, you must have looked poor and bedraggled... :P Tell him it would be nice if he gave one of us down here In San diego a call once in a while... I probably won't get to Idaho this year unless its later in the summer.. He better be putting some hours on that Murphy Moose.. It took him long enough to build it...

The best forecast information available is the NWS area forecast discussion:

(Western central mountains, ID)
SHORT TERM...TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY...FORECAST CHALLENGES CONTINUE
TO BE MAX TEMPERATURES AND PROBABILITIES AND COVERAGE OF AFTERNOON
AND EVENING THUNDERSTORMS BOTH TODAY AND THURSDAY. TODAY OUR AREA
WILL BE UNDER A RELATIVELY DRY SOUTHWEST FLOW ALOFT AHEAD OF A WEAK
SPLITTING UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WHICH WILL BE MOVING ONSHORE THIS
AFTERNOON. BOTH GFS AND ECMWF WANT TO CENTER THE SURFACE THERMAL
TROUGH IN NORTHWEST NEVADA THIS AFTERNOON. COMPARED TO THE
ECMWF...THE GFS CONFIGURES THE PRESSURE GRADIENT TO GIVE THE BEST
DOWN VALLEY FLOW ON THE IDAHO SIDE...WHICH MIGHT HELP EXPLAIN THE
SLIGHTLY WARMER GFS MOS TEMPERATURES FOR THE TREASURE VALLEY. WE
BLENDED ANALOG AND BC OUTPUT FROM ALL AVAILABLE MODELS AND CAME UP
WITH HIGHS FOR TODAY VERY CLOSE TO PREVIOUS FORECASTS. THE ACTUAL
READINGS WILL DEPEND ON LOCATION OF THE THERMAL AXIS...STRENGTH OF
DOWN VALLEY FLOW...AND HIGH CLOUD COVER. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE 5-10
DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL OWING TO CLOUD COVER. ON THURSDAY A WEAK COLD
FRONT CROSSES THE AREA LOWERING MAX TEMPERATURES ABOUT 8 DEGREES.
TODAY MOISTURE IS MAINLY AT HIGH LEVELS. HOWEVER MODEL SOUNDINGS
INDICATE ENOUGH MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY OVER OUR NORTHERN ZONES FOR
ISOLATED LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING HIGH BASED DRY THUNDERSTORMS...
AIDED BY VERY WARM TEMPERATURES. ON THURSDAY MOISTURE CONVERGENCE
JUST AHEAD OF AND ALONG THE COLD FRONT...PLUS LIFT ALONG THE FRONT
AND OVER THE MOUNTAINS...WILL SUPPORT MORE WIDESPREAD CONVECTION...
PARTICULARLY NORTH OF BURNS AND ACROSS BAKER COUNTY INTO THE WEST
CENTRAL IDAHO AND BOISE MOUNTAINS.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

The Boise forecaster confuses the Hell out of me. I have been reading his text forecasts for over a week now and still cannot figure out what he is talking about.

The guys who write the text forecast for the Seattle national weather service site writes in plain English that I can understand.

Have fun everyone! I hope to make it next year. Remember to take photos and videos and then upload to the backcountry airstrip database at shortfield.com.
If you're kicking around McCall, stop-in at the Fogg Lifter cafe and say "hi" to the owner Steve. He's a long-time friend and C-185 pilot.

I would appreciate it if some one heading up to Johnson Creek today or tomorrow would let Cory Wolf (Grassstrippilot- N5198N- Cessna 182) know that I will not be able to make it.

Thanks,

Still hoping to make it in there. I have two concrete pours today and if all goes well maybe fly there this afternoon. If the weather throws a curve ball then my schedule is shot... Seeya soon, I hope.

Fly safe guys,

Ben.
