Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

We will be arriving Thursday early afternoon and will stay until Sunday. We are leaving on the 21st Meadow Creek and the Glacier National Park, then over to Cavanaugh Bay for a night, then down to JC.

Rob, if you are going to be there Wednesday, maybe I'll get you to save me a good camping spot! :D

Can't wait to see you all.

Kitty and I will be there on Friday morning. We'll host the pot luck again. Seven O'clock on the Saturday the 26th at the main fire ring. Bring your favorite micro brew (Scott and Renee bring your marguarita mix). Invite everyone you see on the field. There was some incredible food there last year. It was a great time to meet people from all over that share the joy of flying. And we were left with a cooler full of micro brews!

Piper Painter, looks like you have those dates reserved for us.

The pot luck last year was as good as it gets! Good food and good people!
We will load up with some good local brew. Any of you guys like berry moonshine? :D

Any good ideas of some local places for breakfast or good fishing spots? Our group is a little under powered for some strips, stock powered 170, 172 and Stinson. Breakfast at Sulfur Cr. last year was awesome!
Just a couple of weeks away.... time to get planning.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

Ordered my sectionals yesterday!! This will be the longest Xcountry I've ever flown. Growing up in Idaho I dreamed of being able fly my own plane into the strips around the state. Here it is almost 15 years later and I'm flying from California but it's finally gonna happen!

Are you flying alone?
Me and the wife just might be able to go. Depends a bunch on the weather. Just might see you there.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

Just a heads up on those planning to land on grass airports on the way to or during the fly in:

This is a notice I just received from Idaho Aviation Assn:

I just got off the phone with Suzanne Cable, Wilderness Coordinator for the Moose Creek Ranger District. Here are the highlights;

•The strip has standing water in the usual places on Runway 19/02 (see NOTAM below)
• The short runway 04/22 is soft at the bottom (river) end
• More rain is forecast for Thursday and Friday
• That will prevent improvement in conditions

NOTAM
1U1 MOOSE CREEK /USFS/

BOI 06/019 1U1 RWY 19 2 IN MUD WEF 1006032303

Hopefully things will dry out in the next couple couple of weeks.

I am planning on flying in to Johnson Creek Saturday evening for the fine dining function. I want to make sure I bring enough food to share, how many people are usually there?

Hi Robert we could have 30. Way to much left last year so don't cook for 30.

Cheers...Rob

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

I got the time off, a bit unusual, so I' should be there Wednesday or Thursday. May have the youngest daughter in tow, she's thinking about it. I plan to bring some critter meat for the pot luck. Wyoming mule deer and Washington black tail. Will be two to four planes and three to seven people, still working on the details.

See you all there.

Avidflyer and I should be there Wed evening, or early Thursday. Would like to try to hit Mile Hi, Dewey, and some others Thursday or Friday AM.

We can't wait. We will be leaving in a week and a half. Time to get the finishing touches on the trip planning! The potluck is definately one not to miss. Great turn out and great food with great people. Dee's bringing the bigger dutch oven this year but undecided as to which dish to fix yet.

TomD, thanks for the report on Moose Creek. Hopefully it will dry out before then. I'm hoping those strips in the Kalispel area are dry or will be dried out too by then.

See you all in a few weeks!

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

Are there some strips with lodges that are fairly close by for breakfast runs?
I have been to Sulfur Cr. and have heard Mackay Bar is a good one.

MacKay is my favorite. http://www.mackaybar.net/They want a call or email the day before. Very nice people.

Flying B is great too! I think they want you to fly over and call them on the radio(check this for accuracy) http://www.flyingresortranches.com/

Smiley Creek is super sweet and the easiest to land and take off. MOGAS if you have your own can. Have to carry it like 200 yards.

Of course Sulfur Creek and McCall

Good day

Mackay bar is 28nm north. really a neat place. I've never been there by plane but have stopped by when floating the river.
Flying B is 32nm east and is also very cool. Again I have never been there by plane but have stopped many times when floating by.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

Here is a video some of you may have already seen from last years pot luck.

Last year someone in the group asked if Jeremy would speak to us around the campfire after dinner. He did and it was great fun to hear his stories.

Zane, I'm wondering if you would be willing to talk to the group this year about the forum. What inspired it, some history, and where you see it going. And any thing else you would like to entertain us with. Following that, perhaps you could moderate a "back country stories" session, where others can share some back country experiences with the group. What do you Think?
