Zane, thanks for agreeing to share some words at the pot luck. Good times ahead! Also looking forward to hearing some "back country stories from others". Bring your food, your lawn chair, some beer, and a back country story if you like. 7PM on saturday the 26th. Invite everyone you see on the field! :D

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

My daughter got ahold of my current outdated POS phone today and now the center row of the keypad won't work... I think this seals the deal for an I phone upgrade. My wife is very nervous about not being able to talk to me on this trip except via the Spot. My life and getting to go on future multi day trips would be a lot better if I could talk to her once a day via chat or skype.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

Well Boys and Girls, it snowed today in southeastern Idaho. I hope the Supercub group dressed warm for this weekend at Johnson Creek. If it wasn't for global warming, it would really be cold. Typically May and June are the wettest months in southern Idaho, so the closer you get to July the better the weather. Thus, we need to strive to keep this later June weekend for the BCP gathering. Summer should be off and going by next weekend so it should be great. Now if people would just quit scheduling events for that weekend that they think I should be too.

The jet stream seems to really like this area, having camped overhead for some time now with rarely a diversion, dragging in trough after trough. I really hope something radical happens to send it north so we can commence summertime on schedule.

Supercub guys gettin' a little wet. Patrol guy and Swingle are hunkered down in WY with 40-60 winds and T-storms.

My parents live about 100NM North of JC and they said it's been raining for days and days. They are all getting pretty sick of it. They have even been having to keep burning the wood stove at night because it's been so cold.

Check out yesterdays time lapse of JC. Snow on the lower elevations. Forecast is looking great though for our weekend. I agree. We need to strive to keep it. Here's hoping the forecast holds.

The weather for our fly-in is supposed to be perfect as it was for the last two years. That is why I prefer the last weekend in June. Around the 24th thru the 29th seems consistantly good.

As you may remember, last year the supercubs had much rain but we had much sun.

Most people plan other things near the 4th of July. Today is a beautiful day in Idaho.

Re: 2010 Annual BCP Fly-In set - Johnson Creek 25-27 June

I can see that. Yes we did have great weather but I have other reasons for prefering the later days... Fishing is better when the streams settle down a bit. I go for the flying but I wouldn't go if I couldn't get my fly rod working...Haven't been up there for the fourth of July ever but have been there as late as the last week of July.. Weather is fantastic most of that month with maybe a few showers but the bigger worry then is fires..Left JC one year with permission of Fire Air Boss who was fighting a fire in Yellow Pine.. He cleared me for a immediate turn to the south after takeoff and I was gone..that said I hope you all have great weather... and if anyone gets up to Elk City say hello to Curt for me... He lives at the strip...We were SDPD together years ago.... :D

Once you get into July, the temperatures increase and so do the chances of fires. We may have some that are fairly new to our mountains or those with less powerful engines. Density altitude and thunderstorms become more of an issue with the warmer temperatures of July and August. I have seen a good fly fisherman catch fish under most any conditions. I am sure that you fit that category. I need perfect conditions since I am not that good of a fisherman. Fishing is a very small part of why I fly into the back country.

I heard from friends, fishing is pretty good up at Johnson Creek right now. I'm taking my fishing pole with me today and I hadn't fished in over 10 years. I'll give a report later.

We'll make sure to say "hi" for you. Curt, after chatting with us for 15 minutes or so after we landed there last year, insisted that we take on of his four wheelers when he learned we were going to walk down to get huckleberry pancakes. Our little boy loved his dogs. Really nice guy. We are looking forward to seeing him again.
