For the veterans: what time is the best to arrive for winds etc? Is it normally calmer in the mornings or in the evenings? How about traffic? I'm assuming it can get rather busy at times. Also, my plane is pretty big - will I run into trouble parking her tail out at the sides? I don't want to cramp anyone taking off or otherwise blob anything up.

Before 10:00 in the morning and usually after 6:00 in the evening will give you the calmest winds. Around 9:00 pm the canyon starts to look a little dark.
If you monitor 122.9 as you get close you will get a feel for what is going on. Take your time, look the field over and make your intentions known on the radio, and if you feel you need to make a longer final do it. If anyone is in the air, they can let you know the wind situation. Most are glad to help.

In addition, it's preferred to land to the south and Takeoff to the north unless winds dictate otherwise (avoid the white house on the south end). If you can't make a left downwind/base leg to the airstrip, you can fly to yellow pine and enter a long final. As others stated, be on the radio and keep your eyes open.

For Parking, I'm thinking the north end of the strip may be the best. Parking your nose toward the strip would be a plus, but I'll leave it up to you. JC is going to get pretty packed come Saturday with all this sun in the forecast.

Yes, bring food and beer. :)

Fly safe and we'll see you in a few days.

Awesome day of flying here in Idaho, the air stayed good until noon. Went to the Flying B for breakfast then got to see a certain red retractable gear airplane go in and out of Soldier Bar!

That would have been cool to watch. Heard they made some improvements at soldier bar. It was one of the strips I wanted to check out this year.

I will be down in the morning from Orofino. Going to stop in McCall for a squirt and then I'll be in. Hoping to get a fairly start from here and it's a pretty short cruise down. Rob is there room around your group? Where you guys at?
