Thanks Rob! Got me feelin' all warm and fuzzy now. Almost feels like I'm there between your posts, pics, and my all day surveillance of the webcam.

Planning a Friday 6AM departure from KLMO and a fuel stop at Malad City or Logan and a wx check. If all looks good, be in JC by 1pm.

Super excited.

Geeze Rob, when I first saw that I thought someone cut open a pet dog. Had to look again.

Are those 31's you have now? They look a lot bigger than the 29's you were sporting.

Have a great time everyone. Sorry I can't make it, once again, this year... family/friend commitments. Last year was getting bigger tires. I hope Rob cleaned the dinner bell.

Hey Matt. You may already know I will not be in attendance. But the one question I would ask is (and maybe it's not a question for the RAF?? I don't know). But..........

"How can the FAA AFD be updated to include using a modified approach/take off to avoid flying over the white house on the south end of runway 35?"

We all know you can safely stay east of the house if you need to land 35 or take off 17. I would think that if the AFD was updated with the proper wording and approach details, one would think that there should be lot less issues with JC. Then all of the other publications that use the FAA database can update their own database, then hopefully most all pilots going into/out of JC will know the correct operating procedures for that airport. I don't know. Does this make sense?

And as I'm typing this, I kind of remember that isn't there a BCP member or members here that work for the FAA and that would know how to get this info to the right department for consideration for updating to help JC be a safer airstrip for everybody? Or is it easier to sit and bitch and complain on the BCP.org and SC forum that maybe 75% of the other backcountry pilots don't even read? Or is it typical of some (not all) of these government workers with the attitude of "Not my dept, not going to worry about it!"

Sheesh...... Anyway. I was starting to go out into left field towards the end there. :D

I will address this as a concern during the questions with the IAA/RAF guest speakers. Thanks for you input Pat, wish you could make it this year.

I called the FAA office in WA that is responsible for the northwest and Idaho region. Got a return voicemail back informing me that Johnson Creek is a state owned airstrip and any modifications to the wording and editing for the AFD needs to start with the Idaho Trans. Dept./Div. of Aeronautics. I was told to contact Gary McElheney - Airport Maintenance Manager, 334-8893 (Email: [email protected]) for any concerns, thoughts, safety suggestions for state owned airports like JC.

I'm just trying to be proactive :D

Hey everyone,

We will be launching tomorrow morning around 8am, planning to be at JC by 11am.

Rob, you can help me out with some packing since space will be tight. I know it will change by tomorrow morning, but how far north past the out house do you have to go before there are any open campsites? How packed is the west side of the strip? Usually, we are there by now, but this year is different out of necessity. Anyway, we are just trying to figure if we will be camping on grass or dirt. I wish the state would put in a north cam at JC.

What kind of improvements did they do at Soldier Bar? That is good to hear. I swore I wouldn't go back until it was improved. It was starting to look like a prop strike in the making with the rutting down the center of the strip...a problem for us nosedraggers!

Greg, I'll be listening on 122.75 tomorrow morning. I'm out of KOGD. Sounds like you will be in the general area about the time we are getting airborne. I'll be in either 733 or 98N. What tail will you be in?

Fly safe everyone and we'll see you tomorrow. Can't wait!

I have not walked the line. East side pretty full, west side ok. I'll update this in a while.

Wup - I could use another set of 29"s. If its not too much trouble. I'm guarding your tent.

Got it, and I still have your CC on file so I will just charge it and bring the tires with me.... 8)

Cory this place is filling up with baggers! You can park by the mid field wind sock and camp by me at the group area or go by Rod and Hunter. They know you need a spot. There is a spot I am putting my cooler at just south of bunk house. Cory and joey take it. Red cooler and chairs mine. Red cooler brown chair with my 321TL number on it. A bottle of Maker Mark 100LL on the table.

Cheers

Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

Cool. Thanks Rob. If Joey takes it and you can grab some real estate over by the windsock, that will work. We are sensitive to not wanting to wake anyone up in the middle of the night in the event Tyler wakes up, so we will probably just pitch a tent on the grass and then come over to use the group fire. Anyway, we'll figure it out. Should be there mid to late morning tomorrow.

See you soon,
Cory

Re: 2012 Annual Summer Fly-in at Johnson Creek, ID

Well, the Flynengr family's first attempt at our voyage to the BCP fly in wasn't a success....Engine got quiet after switching to the right tank on climbout, no issues when switched back to the left. Turned around to give it a look. Hopefully it is just a venting issue and we'll be able to join everyone, will probably try for this evening if we can find the problem.
