Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

Guys, PLEASE be careful. The winds are kicking up and forecasted to stay until Sat/Sun. Gusts to 50 today. Way out of my league as a fresh tailwheel pilot. Hope to see a lot of you tomorrow at Mack and caveman on Sat/Sun.

Unfortunately because of the forecast winds I have decided to cancel, and I had such a great time last year. May still fly up later this weekend but will probably miss most of you. That's the bad news, the good news is I won't be awakened at midnight.

Gusting to 32 here not too long ago. I'm stopping at Dutch John for the night because I don't want to get beat up going over the rocks to Vernal. See you guys tomorrow morning.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

I am planning on departing KBTF at around 2PM Friday, for BBQ at Mack, then Caveman. If it is too windy I will delay 'til Sat AM. Put me down for BBQ, luau, lunch at Rockland, and breakfast.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

My preggo wifey has been having some extra discomfort so I've decided to stay home.

Regretfully, I'm not going to be able to attend this year.

I'm hopeful she will be at a more stable phase of the process in a month so this won't happen for Johnson Creek as well.

Looks like the j3 heavy is the first one to the party. Come on over wind is blowing straight down 25, but gusting 15 or so. Image

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

Does spot suck or what it seems to be stopping after 50 messages on tracking is anyone else having problems.
I'm trying to keep an eye on Rob & Stacey (robw56) but after 50 messages on spot it seems to stop sending messages the last time I got a hit was over six hours ago and I know that they are still flying around. I check Brian's spot page and it's doing the same thing as soon as it hits 50 messages it stop sending messages to their spot pages.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

Fellow BCP'ers:

Our friend, grassstrippilot (Cory), is on the ground at Canyonlands with engine trouble. Cory, family and plane are OK.

If anyone reading this post is in the area or participating in Caveman, he could use some help. He is short on tools to do some troubleshooting. A set of spark plug wrenches would be great. I know he would be happy for any assistance that showed up.

He is in the tie down area at Canyonlands.

I can be reached at

Rich

You're never too old to learn something stupid.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

I hope everything is okay and someone comes to help him out. If anybody's heading over there they should also bring a little extra food and water in case they have to spend the night if they can't get it fixed right away. I think one of the things you should carry when you're flying the backcountry is a spark plug wrench and a spark plug, and some sort of pick to get any deposits out of the plugs. Being a mechanic I would like to take a lot of tools with me but it's just too heavy.
