For anyone interested in something to eat early evening of the 24th, Mack Mesa will have a $15 BBQ and will also give a 20 cent discount on fuel for the weekend. We hope that helps everyone out a little and we are looking forward to seeing everybody again.

Ladd, I'll be there unless grandma sells my airplane! ( or I can't make it over the "Hill")
It is a pleasure to come see you folks.
Thanks for the invite.

The faster I go , the farther behind I get.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

That's a great idea Allen
Thanks. Someone else suggested them making sandwhiches for folks. Might be hard to figure, but I'll suggest it.

Hey DG,
What time do ya think would be a good time for the BBQ?

Hi Pinyon,
Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Hi Grasspilot,
DG said you upgraded planes. Congratulations, and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Hi Wilgabeast,
Thank you for the kind words. I hope I can get a look at your plane this year.

Hi HC,
I hope you get to fly over this year. If Grandma sells your plane, I'm sure Ed and Kelly will hook you up with a new one. Please tell them hello for me.

Hey Ladd
Looks like sundown is 8:30. I don't know how much time you want to set aside for it. Maybe 6-7PM Give anyone time to eat , have/get gas, and get back to Caveman before dark.

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

Amacbean and others, what do you think of below:

Rockland Ranch could make some money by, selling us lunch, hamburgers, box lunch, bowl of soup, whatever they have for our (?) Poker run stop??

And maybe they could give people a $10 tour of the ranch?? We thought it was kind of a neat place when we took Rod there!! I'm sure they could use the money. Just an idea.

If we stop there, I will definitely give some of the kids a ride in the Maule. When we were there last time, the little blonde gal, lined up all the tow- headed kids on the driveway to watch us take off! They were very nice to us. Like to go back and see how they are doing. Monticello with fuel is only a few miles from Rockland Ranch.

We are looking forward to coming down this year :!:

Re: 2013 Caveman Ranch Luau fly-in - May 24-26

Hey John
I think the idea is fine, but the logistics would be tough to plan. How many burgers and or sandwhitches, What kind of sandwitches, etc, etc.
Maybe they would like to do a lunch over there(better yet, homemade ice cream party MMM), make it part of the poker run for sure, but, I don't remember available parking to have folks staying for extended times. I'm guessing we usually have 30 or so participants in the poker run.
But, I will stop over there sometime in the next month or so, run it buy them and see what their thoughts are.
Taking folks for a flight is always a great gesture and I am sure would be looked forward to. Don't know how important money is to them.

I just looked up Rockland Ranch as I had never heard of it. Sounds like a very interesting place. I found this write up. http://www.gadling.com/2013/01/15/exper ... and-ranch/
From google maps images I assume you guys are landing on there road that leads to the ranch? Is that right?

I'm really looking forward to coming to the Caveman event for the first time.

That is correct, There is a fairly long, straight piece of road, I think it is generally N-S that leads to the entrance to the ranch(rock with all the houses in it) . That is the runway.
There is also a cool canyon(Hatch Canyon) on the N side of the ranch that will take you back to the general area of Caveman.

Gary you me and Steve from Texas flew that canyon 3 years ago I believe we picked up a card at Robbers Roost? Then you led Steve and I around to Rockland and then through the canyons back to Caveman, a breath taking flight my first in that area. Big dirt landing strip at Rockland.

Gary- I have a phone number to a Rockland resident. I can put you in contact with them if you like, just don't tell them where you got the number from [-X

About 5 aircraft dropped in a few years ago to Rockland Ranch...on Mother's Day no less! Before long, a nice gentleman showed up with some kids and offered to show us around. We were blown away by their generosity and willingness to open their homes to us. It was also very interesting to see how they have organized their community: garden, orchards, water supply, blasting, etc. I was also very impressed with the craftsmanship in their homes...some gorgeous wood work. Very cool place to visit.

Hey Cory
Ye, I've been there, but it has been a few years. I've been reluctant to bring groups in there out of respect for their privacy. But it seems that they happily welcome others so I will stop by, let them know what is going on and see if they would like to be a part of this adventure, and how much of a part they would like to be. Flyin(rides), tours of their homes and property, sandwhiches for the daredevil pilots etc.

I'll be giving a short presentation 2013 March 2, this Saturday, at Cactus fly-in (Casa Grande Airport (CGZ) in Arizona) on Utah back-country flying in general and the Caveman Ranch (UT68) fly-in in particular. And, yes, I plan to be there. Image
