55Wagon, I wonder if that works for the FAA? ;-)

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

I see the typical bush planes were in the lineup, but curious if there were any Ch701, or CH750's there and if so how did they do. How about a Bearhawk LSA?

Best regards,

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

Hey Guys, just thought I would introduce myself, I'm new to the forum and pretty new to flying. This is a video of our trip to Llano and sightseeing, I'm also new to posting videos, I think it's been easier to figure out my new plane than it has been to figure out a gopro.

Wes.

Schwarz, I fixed your video embed. You only need add the unique identifier code, not the whole Youtube URL. Hover over the editor toolbar for the tooltip that shows example usage.

She looks pretty damned rugged for a J-3. Do you still have the C-65 in there?

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

No. She was converted to C85 back in 1956. 74" metal sensenich prop, 29" bushwheels, scott 3200 tailwheel. She did pretty good compared to a lot of very expensive hardware. Only 1 other plane there had fewer horse power than me - that was an 80hp rans flown by gt-401 who also placed in an even more impressive experimental lsa division (competing against the carbon cub e-lsas and big bore S7 rans).

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

That's a pretty cool looking Red Bearhawk LSA, about halfway through the sister's vid (excellent BTW) how did it do, anyone know the deal on it? First time I've seen it, I find that design real interesting.

So, the purpose of the inflatable pylons was, what? To act as a dogleg on short final? That'd be my guess anyway, that'd really benefit the birds that can not only fly slow/land short, but also have good maneuvering capability while doing so. You guys flying the S-7's, good on ya! =D> Looks like a great event, maybe next year for me, no way this year.

Greg,

La Junta always has 37 kts winds. What was your ground speed touching down using the apparent rate of closure approach?

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

Jimmie, it was my first Wyoming landing... Groundspeed was damn near negative.

Courierguy, the pilons were to provide a reference to the theoretical obstacles. To simulate trees for example that have to be cleared on the approach. They were off to either the side of the runway - you have to clear your main gear over the pilons and land as short as possible. I really liked the format - realistic and useful. Great idea by Barnstormer, I hope it takes off at other comps.

Re: 2015 Texas STOL Roundup - 2nd Annual

Nice FBO at La Junta in the early 21st Century. No courtesy car but he gave me rides to town when he could. Conoco-Phillips has a pump station there. They offered no rides to town, however.

For anyone caught out in SE Colorado in nasty weather, the Conoco-Phillips' clean right of way goes fairly straight from La Junta to just east of Centennial Airport. They don't put towers up on the right of way.
