Well Phooey!

The Root Ranch, ID, Husky fly-in is scheduled for the same weekend. I'm heading up there on the 17th or 18th so will regretably miss out on Austin (again).

Hows the hot spring this year? Do we need to bring anything to fix it up?

Anybody flying from the Boise area Saturday morning and flying back Sat night or first thing Sunday morning with an empty seat? I'll pay half or part of the fuel bill!

Everbody watch out now and mind your maners. 9U3 is now KTMT. Generaly when there are more numbers in an identifier than letters, it is a friendlier airport. What is next, a tower. Do we need prior permision to land? :D :D :D

I know it is dry camping, but what about food? Is it very far to a place to eat? Do we need to bring whatever we want to eat?

Saturday morning there is all kinds of excellent goodies brought by the local ladies. Then the Lions Club all you can eat about noon is awesome. Other than that bring what you need. There is nothing near by, you'd need a ride to get into town.

"Town" is 5 miles away where there several place to eat. Suggest you bring a cooler full of snacks like applesauce ,beans and weenes, jerkey, water etc. to hold you thru for big Bar B Q . Were ,Bill Berle and I are staying in town -trying to get my tote goat ready for transportation . Lots of activities to have fun with. May come up a day early to Battle Mountain to look at another 182.

Re: 8/21/2010 Austin Fly In, Austin Nevada (9U3)

Everything looks good, beef is hanging in the cooler, wood is cut, even cleaned out my hangar a bit, and you can almost see the floor.. ha ha..
Were supposed to be getting a fuel truck from Battle Mountain with 1000 gallons of 100 LL. I have hauled a couple hundred gallons of 91 oct. car gas out to the airport, "just in case" but it has 10% ethanol. I really tried to get a shuttle set up between apt and town, but doesn't seem that will be running steady at this point, however there are a couple of Lions Club members willing to give a ride or two as necessary, they will be working the lunch too, so...
Sorority gals are supposed to have breakfast goodies Sat morning and snacks all day, Lions will have a Big Feed around noon Saturday, and their "War Wagon". We even have a great little band going to play Saturday evening. This week, were setting up some shade, a little "jump castle" for the kids, a swimming pool, and a couple of porta potties.
We were thinking if there's enough interest, we might have a spot landing contest, and a "Butt Hole Monkey Drop (like flour bombing), and whatever else that interest calls for, in the evening or afternoon Saturday. It's pretty low key with the main idea to just have fun and entertainment for all involved and watching. Anyone willing to give a few rides to kids or whatever, would be welcomed by all. We'll try to tow a banner over town again Saturday morning sometime.
Friday night will be a few of us camped out there, to burn a fire in the pit, then about 3 in the morning on Saturday, some poor sap, me, will have to get up and throw the meat in the fire. It should be cooked to delicious perfection by noon.
I have plans to try to get out to the hot springs this week and work on a couple of the tubs, they need some repairs to the hoses supplying the water. I also have another horse trough I was going to haul out there to make one more tub, but we'll see how ambitious I get... ha ha
Weather looks like it's going be great as far as I can tell.
I hear the Lear might make it back. :-)
AWOS is 132.925 and CTAF is 122.9 New Identifier is KTMT, old one is 9U3. Lights are pilot controlled, 3 to 7 clicks on 122.9. Runway is 18-36 great pavement, and the East 1/2 of the crosswind runway is good smooth dirt.
Not many tiedowns, so bring em if ya have em, I got a few stakes, quite a bit of rope and a pretty big hammer, laying around the hanger too.
Hope to see a good crowd there, having a great time.

You'd better not lose sight of your flap handle while you're making those crepes Tim, Bill and I might start working on it when you ain't lookin' :P
Speaking of field approvals, there may be some good news for any Maule and Stinson folks on their flaps by the time I get to Austin.

Re: 8/21/2010 Austin Fly In, Austin Nevada (9U3)

I am having second thought about coming to Austin. Seems that my shoulder is giving me fits and I am having a hard time reaching the flap handle. Oh what to do. The worse part is that is my crepe flipping arm.

Well buddy ole Tim, I really need a new engine. But new lifters and a cam will do for now. I'm still on the road trucking. I get home late Thursday night and have to hit the road first A.M. Tuesday back to Indianapolis. So, I'll only be home for 4 days. I hadn't been home in over a month and a half and need to renew my drivers license Friday.

I really don't want to miss another Austin Fly In, so there's a very slight chance I might jump in the pick up late Friday and head on down and come home first A.M. Sunday (about a 6-8 hour drive each way). I'll see what I got going on at home.
