I would not use the word "vegitarian" in Austin. I do not thing the meaning has made out that way. If you did they might introduce you to the "Pig Farmer".

Hey Joe is the Pig Farmer still alive? He was quite the character.

The old Pig Farmer bit the dust, but your right, he was a character. He died two or three years ago of just plain ol old age, or maybe the red meat got him. You know, this just my observation, but, if you sweat, exercise and don't eat anything that is bad for you, then, if you don't live any longer, .... you're so miserable, that at least it seems like you did....

I think I will camp. In my house, in my bed. Not that far of a flight from here!!!! Finally a close one for us Northern Nevada guys/gals.

You know, though, a lot of the fun last year was after dark around the fire. The BS got pretty deep......

May be at a BBQ with a bunch of liberal anti gun folks on Sat night. I will try it then.

Are there any updates on the Austin Fly-In? Can I get gas at Fallon? The sectional looks pretty hashed up with MOAs and Restricted Areas. Is that a problem?

thanks,
tom

MOA's shouldn't be a problem depending on where your coming from.

The Austin 1 & 2 MOA's are effective Mon through Friday. So I see no problem cutting across. Is there another way to do it? or do you just call ARTCC and ask for activity?

WOC SPOT

I would probably fly down from Corvallis on Friday, maybe camping not quite there Friday night, then come all the way in on Sat AM. Then fly home on Sunday. Sounds like I'd miss all the military action. At the speed I fly, I'd just be a bug on some military jet's windscreen, so the entry on Saturday morning sounds like a plan.

One of the earlier posts indicated that someone might be willing to haul mogas from town. That would be great. Has the ethanol mania struck Austin, NV yet?

thanks again,
tom

This is less than a month away!

It will be my first time, but I am planning to attend.

Those of you that have attended before should talk it up a bit, might draw a bigger crowd.

I'm still planning on going! It's definitely worth a trip to Austin. There will be some great pilots to swap stories with and from what I understand, there will be some fun activities later in the day. Coyote Ugly mind be able to alaberate on that note.

Yea, you can get gas at Fallon, and, I do have a 100 gallon tank in my pickup, that we can haul gas from town if we have to, I think 91 oct. is about $4.70 here. I haven't tested it, but don't think there is ethanol in it yet here. We've been working on getting avgas, but the powers that be tell us no, can't afford it yet.

Fallon Desert, who operates the MOA here, is on 126.2, however I never call them unless I want to request to cross their "Restricted Airspace", in that case, I just would "request transit your restricted airspace direct to 9U3". If they are unable to clear you through the Restricted Airspace, which is about 50% of the time, they will send you through the VFR corridor. That means just follow the old Highway 50, between 7 and 8 thousand feet, or simply tell them you are "unfamiliar", and they will give you step by step to Austin. All of the controllers are usually trainees.

There will be quite a few camping on Saturday night, because I expect the airplane games to continue until dusk if it's anything like last year. Should be good food at the barbque, good friendship and good flying if all goes as planned. We're hoping to have spot landing, flour bombing, short take-off, and possibly some type of parachute toss demo, toilet paper shredd demo., and a banner tow. Sounds like a Breezy may be doing some type of rides, and we have some donations to be given away.... I've also got some T-Shirts, don't know who's selling em or for how much, but they are pretty cool.

The barbque starts at noon on Saturday, "All You Can Eat" $10, sponsored by the Lions Club, then the games in the afternoon and evening. Sunday is kind of a see what we all brung breakfast, then there is an Open Road Car Race from Battle Mt. to Austin - 90 miles. There is a backcountry type strip about 6 miles from the airport for those who want to land and watch the race. Also on Sunday some Big Tire Cub Types will probably head for the mountain tops.

I've got a poster on my computer, but can't figure out how to post it on this forum, but anyone that sends me an e-mail, I can reply and attach the poster if they wanted to post one. Or don't hesitate to call me with questions 775-964-2410 at home or 775-223-3613 on my cell.

We've got a bunch of good meat to cook underground, come, eat and do some low key, fun flyin or watchin. If we can get this fly-in big enough, they will just have to help us get avfuel won't they?????

Coyote,

Can I have your permission to copy your posts and re-post them on ksl.com here in Utah??

We have free classifieds and I will do some advertising for the Fly-in here on the Wasatch Front if that works for you? The site get tons of hits.

I would also like to post the link to the Austin Fly-In on the Idaho cub page in the ad.

Let me know, and thanks for all your hard work.

Absolutely, all help in spreading the word is appreciated muchly..... Were hoping to have a big whoop up with some good fun and good food. Remember that the camping is primitive.. in other words on the ramp.. we do have a fire hydrant now with the best drinking water there is in it, or three older motels in Austin .. Pony Canyon Motel 775-964-2605, Lincoln Motel 775-964-2698 and Mountain Motel 775-964-1433.

Mauleace, your a genius, thanks a million......

Any pilots in the Boise area that would like to fly right seat down to Austin for the fly in? I'm a student pilot and would like to take my sister and nephew down for the day. I was thinking about leaving the crack of dawn and come back that Sat. night. I'll pay for the fuel. I'm based at Caldwell.

If you are a student pilot, then the guy in the right seat needs to be a CFI. That is unless the right seat guy is pilot in comand and you cannot log it. If the plane gets wrecked, your insurance company will make the right seat guy (or gal) pay up.
