Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Cool. Allen and I have spoken and we are planning an early June departure. Tentative plans are to go up via the inland route and return along the coast. Or vice versa if weather dictates.

Time to start thinking about things I'll want to get done on the plane before we go. I figure 8 months should be enough to spread it out. Plus it will keep me busy this winter.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

I'll be headed up the beginning of May, shortly after the Texas STOL Roundup.

Looks like a BCP fly-in at my new place might be in order for next year. :D You guys could camp under the wings or there is a hotel right across the highway (easy, very short walk). Good restaurant right next to it. Be the perfect place to base for exploring the Kenai Peninsula and the Aleutian/Alaska Range. Fuel at nearby Soldotna and Kenai.

You guys interested?

And after our own akavidflyer graciously mowed it.

BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Hey Barnstormer! That place looks great! I'd love to add it to the itinerary. What's the lat/long or the name? Length?

I think that's longer than I can afford to be gone. I'm going to work on linking up for part of it though!

I think we are allowing a week going up, a week there, and a week coming back. You know, weather and all.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Obviously our plans will be fluid. If we have the luck of Zane and have great weather going up, then we will either just move up the timeline to allow more time for getting home or stay a day or two extra...or a combination of both.

Were you going to plan a meeting as this starts to get closer to coordinate/plan? Tentatively I'm in.

Gotcha.

Since my big winter trip got cut way short I might save some leave days and try to get more time off this summer. We'll see in January how much it looks like I'll be able to get. Still looking around July-ish?

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

We will be leaving in early June.

As for a meeting, we haven't talked about that. Depending on who is in and where they are from, that may or may not be realistic. Allen and I knew going into this that trying to accommodate everyone's schedule and desires would be tough. So, we decided that we would just plan what works for us, allow for as much flexibility as we can, and hope that others can join us that want to.

I'm guessing that the majority of the discussion and planning will take place via this forum, but an in person meeting would be great too if feasible. As it gets closer and we see who is definitely in, then we can see if it's doable.

With the range of Aircraft that might go, what do you suppose the average cruise speed will be? #-o

I was thinking maybe we could fly in groups based on similar cruise speeds. Any other slow pokes plan on going with a 100mph airplane?

If I have 31s on by then I probably won't be much faster!
