Keep me in the loop with timing and the anticipated number of folks. I look forward to meeting you and some of the group.

Grassstrippilot wrote:All are welcomed! Obviously the route will be in part dictated by weather. Our hope is to do one of the inland routes going up and the coastal route coming back. While I'd love to fly the trench, I realize that can come with its own issues, especially range and fuel being an issue for some in the group. Allen and I talked briefly about it yesterday. Were that the preferred choice due to weather, he could do it with gas bags and me as an alternate fuel source. Realistically, I'm guessing we'd go up via Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, basically following Kristian's route from his trip in 2014. It sounds like there are some cool things to see on that side of the Rockies that we would miss if we took the trench. Plus we'd have more options for fuel and places to wait out weather that way too. Also there are several BCP members over there that would be great to meet up with.

This is all still very preliminary but we are starting to try to talk details. The TRs on here have been a gold mine of info. I'd suggest that anyone considering coming should go read them. I've data mined them and taken all the suggestions and thrown them into a word document. Basically trying to gather all the info into one spot for easy reference. If you'd like it, pm me your email address and I'll send it over.

This is the current route going north as far as the entry into AK.

Cory, FYI, CZGF is a canpass permit only airport for entry to CA. Not a regular check in airport for customs.
The ones close to here are, Eckarts to the east at Bonners Ferry, Castelgar, due North of 63S, Penticten to the west a bit, and Kamloops a little farther North.
Kamloops (CYKA) is a bit further up the road, but a nice place to stop, Also 108 mile house is a good spot for gas and a stop, Can walk to food.(CZML).
Have not been to Quesnel for a lot of years, but it was a bit far from town. I see it has gas now, last time I was there I had to go to Williams Lake to get fuel!
Sure hope it works out and I can join this trek. [-o<

Our place is just SW of 63S and a little Nw of KDEW, (82WN)Not sure why your plan was to stop at both? They both need a car to get to town. Old Lincoln in Deer Park, Colville has a couple of cars @ $10 a day.
If it worked out, could have an overnight at Magee Creek Aero Drome (Our Place 82WN), Put something on the Barby, plenty of room to put up a tent, could probably find a few premade beds in a converted bus and a camper or 2 on the place.
Could make sure I had some alchohol free mogas here also if I knew how much might be needed.
Maybe even find a few locals to drop in also. I know there are a few from around Spokane N Idaho and E washington that could find there way here. 8)

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Thanks for that info on CZGF. I wasn't aware of that. I'll change it to one of the others. I believe the only reason I had it was based on reading about someone clearing there.

I should have clarified something when I posted the route. As I've read trip reports and read about anything that someone enjoyed or recommended as a good stop, I've added it to the route basically as a reminder. As we get closer to making the trip, we will thin out the flight plan. Those locations dropped will become alternates in the event we need a backup plan for that area.

Thanks for the rest of the info and for the offers of beds and BBQ! That sounds like a great time. I've added this post to the notes and we will see how things develop. I hope you can join us too!

How many airplanes, people is this trip looking to get? Obviously its still early and plans can change, but what are the initial numbers looking like?

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

We almost need to redo the poll. Off hand I'd say I know of 6-12 that have recently expressed interest, but I highly doubt we'd have a group that big. The only two I know of with some amount of certainty is myself and Allen.

Maybe I'll talk to Zane and see if there is a way to reset/redo the poll...or add a new one.

You can reset the poll yourself by editing the first post and changing the poll options.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

If I need to do that, I'd be happy to. Unfortunately things have changed for us and we are going to have to postpone the trip to 2017.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

I was actually going to reply here soon and remove myself soon. My new job I'm starting has a hellova summer planned. We're going to be BUSY.

I can probably protect some serious time for a flight up and back in spring/summer 2017.

It'd be cool if we could start marking calendars now for next year.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Thinking about Alaska. Is it possible to make it there (on wheels) in Later April/early May? Or, is there usually still too much snow at that time?

Thanks,

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

You can fly up or down on wheels in the dead of winter, and all the rest of the year. Maybe not off-airport, but everywhere else.

Always call about fuel. Bella Bella was out of fuel for a month this Summer. NOTAMed but, does not hurt to call and see why?

Good thing about the Coast, BC marinas have 100LL. Never seen that down in the 48. Gave a twenty for a pickup truck on Denny, Island then drove to the Marina (25 minutes) and brought 100LL back to the airport.

That sounds good. I'll keep this thread updated on our plans. Basically our plans are exactly the same: early June and be gone 3-4 weeks. Really bummed that it won't be this year but sometimes plans have to change.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Kinda but not really related to this thread, my daughter and i redeemed a bunch of American Airline miles (they trade with Alaska airlines) for a trip to Fairbanks leaving Wednesday coming back the 16th March. Any suggestions on things to do? up there. Looking for the Aurora :)
