I was thinking maybe we could fly in groups based on similar cruise speeds. Any other slow pokes plan on going with a 100mph airplane?

If I have 31s on by then I probably won't be much faster!

Depends on what I fly up that might be pretty fast!!

This is what I was thinking. I'm sure there will be times I'll pull back to cruise with the 100 mph crowd, and others I'll do a normal cruise. But LOP I'm not that fast. 130 mph TAS.

I will have a Bar-B-Que if you can come through Haines. Drop down just south of Whitehorse over Skagway and right into town. Gas on the field and lots of room.

Drake still kickin around? Is he Mayor yet!
Haines is a great stop! If you came through Atlin instead of Whitehorse it is just over the hill and your there!
Last time I came through Gas was cheaper in Atlin than WH. Not that either are inexpensive!! #-o

GSP,

I can't do LOP yet, so if I get to go I might be in your crowd. Though it might be a lot of fun to throttle back and hang with Rob, David and the slow gang...

I can't wait until Jan to figure out if I can go with ya'll!

Is anyone looking for a seat on this trip? Or looking for someone to fill a seat and split gas?

Put your big tires on and you won't have a choice! And it's more fun. ;)

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

I was just looking at my schedule. Probably leaving sometime midweek the week of the 12th would be my best guess right now.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

Theresa and I might be able to join you guys. I've got June 14 - 29th off by some miracle. We've headed up that way 3 times. Made it to Northway once, Juneau once, and got stuck in Fort Nelson for several days due to too strong a wind. Its a real challenge flying up there. It would be fun to fly with a gang. :D Our cub will only do about 85-90 mph, so we'd definitely be taking up the rear :?

BCP AK Caravan: Poll

All are welcomed! Obviously the route will be in part dictated by weather. Our hope is to do one of the inland routes going up and the coastal route coming back. While I'd love to fly the trench, I realize that can come with its own issues, especially range and fuel being an issue for some in the group. Allen and I talked briefly about it yesterday. Were that the preferred choice due to weather, he could do it with gas bags and me as an alternate fuel source. Realistically, I'm guessing we'd go up via Fort St. John and Fort Nelson, basically following Kristian's route from his trip in 2014. It sounds like there are some cool things to see on that side of the Rockies that we would miss if we took the trench. Plus we'd have more options for fuel and places to wait out weather that way too. Also there are several BCP members over there that would be great to meet up with.

This is all still very preliminary but we are starting to try to talk details. The TRs on here have been a gold mine of info. I'd suggest that anyone considering coming should go read them. I've data mined them and taken all the suggestions and thrown them into a word document. Basically trying to gather all the info into one spot for easy reference. If you'd like it, pm me your email address and I'll send it over.

This is the current route going north as far as the entry into AK.

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

If you all come through Atlin (CYSQ) fuel is generally cheaper there than in Whitehorse (as noted by M6RV6) and I expect to be around most of the summer. Could help with logistics etc. if you choose to come through there. Fairly close to walk to town or I have a car as well. I'm flying up in late May-early June in the RV9.

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks Greg! I appreciate that! Your advice and info from the other thread was great. I found myself copying several of your posts. I'll definitely be tapping your brain during our trip planning. Thanks!

Re: BCP AK Caravan: Poll

If you come through Fort Nelson, plan an overnight stop at Gordon's Field (CBL3). We have lots of room to camp and wheels to get to town as needed. I would be glad to host a BBQ and campfire. Would be great to meet some of you folks. Who knows, I might even join you for part of the trip north from here.
