Re: Aktahoe - Adventures in a Backcountry Super Cub Rev 2

Little one wanted to go fly and swim somewhere. One of the more fun flights I have had.
Checkout the speed were getting with the 35's. All engine temps below 400 now. I have fallen in love all over again.ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Great video, gorgeous plane.

You have a great life, first and foremost because you clearly recognize you have a great life.

I started to write that saying 'You are a lucky man', but I recognize luck is a very small part of it. Good for you!

Looks so fun! I was really hoping to meet you and see your plane at OSH, but you are clearly right where you should be.

Your airplane is really beautiful and very impressive. Enjoy!

Ha! That's a great pic of your kid looking skyward, without any aircraft in the frame. A non pilot wouldn't get it, we do. I get a kick out when a plane flies over head and my dog gives it a careful look, same deal sort of. 8)

Ranch Pilot in his post on July 16th said the 4place will be at Booth 423 at Oshkosk. I have several friends there who stopped by--no 4 place. Is it elsewhere on the field at Oshkosh?

Re: Aktahoe - Adventures in a Backcountry Super Cub Rev 2

Getting used to the AOA dragging it in at 18-22mph. Low 40's over the water. It's a strange feeling but man is it slow. I know it can go slower. It's just crazy to me.

Full flaps come in once I'm over the shore otherwise it comes straight down. Over the shore it goes full flaps, add power, keep pulling back on stick and hold it off while the speed just continues to drop. At one point I found myself at nearly full power to hold the AOA. My mind has been blown.

These things work! The plenums are keeping the cylinders in the 380's/390's. Oil change today with 60 hours on the engine.

T3 sure makes a nice ride as do the Shock Monsters with 35's at 2.4 PSI

And we haven't even talked about this yet. The Aero Fab precise flight control stick

FYI, Snap On makes a really nice low pressure tire gauge that I've used now for a year+. Very accurate:

Re: Aktahoe - Adventures in a Backcountry Super Cub Rev 2

Been flying a lot. Have a lot of video on my YouTube page. Need to tighten my flaps up. The blow back on the big Kellers is somthing else. In each flap setting I'm only getting maybe 1015 degrees of deflection. Still landing at 18-22mph. (Lots of video to confirm that). Can't imagine what this bird will do with the 50 degrees the Kellers promote. Anyhow here are some photos from the past couple days

Re: Aktahoe - Adventures in a Backcountry Super Cub Rev 2

Need to do something about my flaps. The Keller Flaps are notorious for poor retraction. Tearing into them now then family vacation for 10 days. Thinking its a bell crank issue but not certain until we get into them. Gonna get a larger flap handle and tighten the cables as well but they already seem tight so we will see. The issue is blow back. On the ground static they are great. Once airborne at 25mph at full deflection they are only showing about 10 degrees or so of flaps deployed. No different that the 1st notch.

Anyhow the brd flies incredibly slow. I cannot imagine how she is going to fly with full flaps as advertised by these big Kellers. Heres a 22mph touchdown with me at 225, my back seat pax at 180, 20g of fuel on board, 8700' DA and 84 degrees hot! Its not as rough as it looks. The camera man had one had on his iPhone. Its uphill and fairly rough but not really. Stable approach at 27-30mph then touch down at 22mph. Look at the tape on a big screen. Its nuts! Steam gage Airspeed does not even register. The speed was also confirmed on my Garmin VIRB. 22mph

Anyhow, here are a few videos

Flaps on departure on 25mph

Flaps on the ground static

Some slow landings with very slow touch down speeds. Only 10 degrees flaps (full flaps are pulled but you can see there not all the way out due to blow back) and no brakes on landing. No sense burning up brakes if you don't have to.

Re: Aktahoe - Adventures in a Backcountry Super Cub Rev 2

Kevin, Have you had a video of your flaps from when you go full to touch down?
Also take a of them at full and power up and take off and see what they do as the speed increases?? Might see something to see

Good Luck Sounds like fun!!
