Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Might be the same deal, but for me, even though it's an official airport, it's not paved. I've not found an FBO to rent here that will allow me to land on other than paved runways....so I just don't rent

Right now we will be trying to fly over in a rental plane which prohibits off-airport operations, so we may be tying down in Moab and either driving over or bumming a ferry from generous BCP members.

No reason to rent a plane when there is a perfectly good, highly desireble, early model 182 for sale(on this website), at a bargain price, amazingly, right on the way to Caveman. Tanks are full too. =D>

I don't rent so I can keep piling up the cash! You're gonna sell it, I'm sure of it, and it'll be soon and before I could buy it.

I thought I had a buyer for you down here in Pueblo, but he's looking for a later model. I tried :( It's on my watch list on eBay, I keep hoping you'll get more bids!

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Speaking of full fuel tanks Gary and others what are the fueling options this year in the KCNY ($5.94) area? Any non eth gas available in Moab? And the cheapest fuel I see on Airnav is at KRIF at $5.20 or $5.25 at KBCE. Unless your coming from the west KMLF $4.89.

Seeing Mogas at Halls Crossing U96 $3.95 but can't get them on the phone to verify.

And will there be a poker run this year? And a flyin dinner to Mac Mesa?

Just got an update from U96 $4.25 for mogas and the guy I talked to thinks it's 87 octane. 100 ll is $5.58 I think.

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Poker run (YES)and dinner at Mack Fri. PM.) have been addressed.
Monticello has fuel, usually relatively reasonable. Mack has fuel and offers a discount to participants. Cal-Black has 100LL and Mogas. Also usually competively priced. Don't know about Eth/free n Moab. Seems most towns have it, but you have to find it, and get it to Caveman???

I have heard of folks also getting gas at Gouldings, don't know about the ethanol there, or the legality, but has been done.

Might I highly recommend Milford as a fuel stop? Fuel is always cheap!

Virginia will give you the keys to the pickup truck and you can go refresh yourself at Penny's Diner (great!).

Call unicom 10 minutes out, on slow days Virginia sips lemonade on her porch in town and will zip on out to the airport to greet you.

Oooh! Feature request an [airport]U42[/airport] tag! Could be a simple hover with basic data or click for airnav or something! That'd be sweet!

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Just a couple questions..

I'll be staying in one of the 'rooms'.. (Never been there before)

What is recommended to bring for 'sleeping'..

I've got conflicting data.... One person directed me to a website that shows furnished rooms.. And a post here saying they're just a blasted out hole with rock floor and no furnishings.

I'm cool with either!

But want to be prepared..

Do I bring a cot and sleeping bags?

Says you live in backcountry Utah. Might be worth your time to stop by and check it out for yourself before the flyin.
