No children under 12? Why not? What do they have against kids?

If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

While I can't speak for the owners, I was there last year; I would say they have nothing against kids but instead they do have a concern for their SAFETY! Let's see; aircraft propellers, cliffs, the river, snakes, dehydration.... I'm sure you get the idea. Mix that environment with the total lack of control demonstrated by some parents and it is recipe for something bad to happen.

I have 3 kids and when they were that age we frequently took them airplane camping all over. Had to watch them like hawks around those hazards and we did. There were kids under 12 there last year and the parents exercised good control and judgement. It was a pleasure to be with them.

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

every fly in I've been to with this group, up till now that is, all the kids who came with parents in their planes were well behaved and not a bunch of curtain climbers... not so with parents who bring their kids to t fly in who have no plane experience... once flew to a fly in at Flabob airport and parked for the day and to have bkfast... when we were walking back to our planes one of the guys in my group came unglued as he saw some kid standing on top of his cowling just back of the prop.. his dumb ass father had hoisted him up there to take his picture... after reaming this dumb shit out we asked him where he parked his car so we could all go over and take a group photo of us on it...he quickly walked off , kid in tow....but then I fully understand the liability aspect of Caveman and their concern... :D

Thanks Blackrock and Iceman. We will try not to disappoint this year. We try to be super sensitve to not be annoying to anyone else.

As previously said, Rod and the gang couldn't have beeen more welcoming of our kids. In fact, she was ready to turn the generator on and set them up with cartoons in their house. We didn't want to impose and be under foot since I knew they had a lot of work to do. Just do as has been stated: keep an eye on them and make sure they behave, stay safe, and stay out of other peoples' hair.

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Hey Tadpole
It's OK. I'm sorry for you, I know you have been trying to make something happen for some time now. I think it would have been a nice affordable option for you. I will relist it. It still could be a cheap, short term loan for you if you went that route. I put it on my credit card when I bought it.
Anyways, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I'll be staying in one of the 'rooms'.. (Never been there before)

What is recommended to bring for 'sleeping'..

I've got conflicting data.... One person directed me to a website that shows furnished rooms.. And a post here saying they're just a blasted out hole with rock floor and no furnishings.

I'm cool with either!

But want to be prepared..

Do I bring a cot and sleeping bags?

I just talked to Rod Tangrin and he said the caves are in the same condition as last year. Means cave with sliding glass door, no bed, no sink, no toilet, no hair drier for the wife :( . More weight for the plane. Don't take my post as a negative just info I'll bring BYOBag

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Gary - add my wife and me to the list. We'll be Friday night/Saturday so count us in for 1 breakfast each. We flew down to Caveman Saturday, April 7th. Met a couple of nice 180's out of Colorado and their pilots, too. Great people, super nice.

Rod and Hunter were out on a Jeep Safari, but we spent some time with Paula. They are excited about the fly-in, and she even showed us the design for this years t-shirts. She is very cool, gave us some water, invited us into the Cave (house) and we chilled for while. They are doing dinner for the fly-in I guess, and it sounds delicious! The place is looking really good - I guess they have a tractor down there now and they've been cleaning up the fields and everything looks great. This may not be the best place to say it, but they do have a gratuity box in the lodge - make sure you let them know how much you appreciate them letting us fly in when you're there!
