I realize I'm sort-of hijacking a thread here, but this is just the right crowd to ask. While I'm not sure I'll make it as late as 2011 May 13-15, I plan to be in that area a bit sooner. Does anybody have any reports on the back-country strips around Moab that you would be willing to share with mailto:[email protected] me? (Check out "314adam caveman landing" on YouTube
if you want to see what it looks like to land at Caveman Ranch (UT68), also known as Tangri-La.)

I'll probably come down, unless it is to cloudy, to sunny, to cold, to hot, my kid is playing some lame sport, my wife is PMSing, the dog has a cold, there is any mud, wind, Obama speech reruns on TV, my car needs to be washed, I'm constipated, have an ear ache, lawn needs mowing, the wife's birthday, toilet is dripping, a renter has a squeakie door, fund raiser for soccer camp, need to go buy paper towels for the kitchen,

I don't want to leave early to miss weather, and if the weather is not perfect for the return trip well that won't work. I need free margs Gary and whats up with no steak dinner? I can't wait for hot water on my shower more than 20 seconds, and must have Charmin extra soft toilet tissue.

Other than that I'll be there.

I was at mineral bottom 3 days ago, the strip was in great shape. So good actually that I plan to drop my sister and her boyfriend there in a couple weeks in the cirrus for a raft trip.
The Cirrus is an under appreciated backcountry machine.

Gary,

I'm planning on coming this year if there is still room. My wife and I just drove thru Zion, Monument Valley and spent last Wednesday night in Moab and drove through Arches National Monument yesterday, on our way back from the Palm Springs area to Kansas, so am really excited to see if all from the air. Hope the weather cooperates, was great while we were in the area, March 16 and 17.

I just had a call from Ladd @ Mack Mesa(CO7) yesterday. They(Steve-owner and Ladd-manager) wanted to do a BBQ and make it part of the Caveman flyin. I had been thinkin of a Poker for part of 1 of the days and thought that they might work well together.

Maybe go fly in the AM, then have a poker run in the afternoon with a dinner at Mack.
Probably have to be on Sat. You certainly don't have to do either or both, but might be a nice/fun option for some.

It would really be helpful to know who would be interested in the BBQ for food planning.

Is it PC to do poker runs at back country strips? ha ha not that some of us known AH give a rip.

My 2 cents worth. 5 card stud

May I suggest cards at Gateway (Breakfast), Deloris Point, Cedar Mountain, Mack Mesa(Dinner & Gas bring cash or check), The Cave (Campfire & Margs)

Sounds fun Gary.
