No, they don't fold up, but these guys make great lightweight boats. I have a modified carbon/kevlar haystack that weighs 13lbs. Probably not going to take them with you flying, but for paddling trips with some carries they are great. I use mine mainly for pack in or paddling trips to Brook Trout ponds and just paddling around the local lakes. I can easily go for a few days in mine living quite well. The 12' Skylight would make a great paddle in deer hunting boat.

I have also been researching this and think the pakcanoe would or will be my choice. For my use I fly several hundred miles to set up camp and really don’t want to strap a boat to the outside. The inflatable rafts are neat and light weight but I really don’t see paddling around on a lake all day and fishing out of one especially if the wind comes up.

I still like this option, maybe a bit “recreational” for some of the usage discussed but suitable for some as well

Put the canoe or Porta Bote on the pilot side - so you can keep an eye in it in flight. I've flown with both - handling in the air did not feel much different with or without.

I've gone from using a pakboat, in the plane to a Soar boat, and will be picking up an alpackaraft soon.

No one has mentioned the build and breakdown time of the pakboat. Plan on 2 hours to build and 1 hour to breakdown until you get really good. And lots of parts to lose or break. I've done 3-4 week trips in Manitoba in those things. Great if your going hundreds of miles, inconvenient if you changing camp via airplane.

I like inflatables, fast set up, fast break down, and with a good patch kit, easily repairable.

How slow? I cruise around 120mph with the amphibs on anyway. Much slower than that?

Secure the boat well and 120 works fine, though the boat will slow you a little anyway.

I’ve carried a lot of boats on 185 and 206, and always used normal cruise power.

I’d respectfully disagree that a PakBoat takes two hours to set up. First few times it takes a while to figure out, but after that maybe a half hour at most.
