Interesting crash and bailout video

This has been making its rounds

Hope that ridge wallet paid a lot to sponsor that video…

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

And to think Lindbergh did that no fewer than four times in his early career.

Without the aid of a ridge wallet and a selfie stick, no less.

Well, the title of the video is accurate, in any case. Waste of a great old airplane......oh, yeah, always wear your parachute.....

Interesting. Wears a parachute but no PLB or anything for S&R to find him. Not much for survival gear on him, not even water. And did he trim it nose down before he jumped out? Sure went into a dive after he jumped.

Plus he’s wearing a sport rig, that’s super uncomfortable with the lower bump in it, having jumped a good bit and worn both a pilot rig and my sport rig, no way I’d go flying around with my sport rig on unless I was going to jump, plus with a sport rig it’s a longer deployment time unless you go straight to reserve, harder to take on and off, more weight, etc etc, lots of WTF in that video

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

I try not to second-guess but.. I feel like unless I jumped a lot that part would be pretty dangerous, And I don't really want to practice. Does a taylorcraft do slow and short pretty well? Seems like it's not a Bo. I guess without a chute I look harder at whatever is at hand and I thought I saw some river beds that would probably work well enough. From this here armchair.

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

I hate to say it because I could be wrong. This whole thing seems set up to give the guy his 15 minutes of fame or notoriety. I get that he set out to make a video but still, the cameras, the promo, wearing a chute in a T-crate, holding a selfie stick while he bails out. His buddies ashes were apparently on his person. I don't know but I'm skeptical. That T-crate may have been a barely airworthy basket case.

I agree. Even with how stripped out the plane was. Hardly even a seat cushion. Ho hose with a valve flapping around up above the passenger door. Just seemed weird to me.

I hope the insurance companies start putting all these youtube cowboys in their own risk pool.
Seems like the more risky and outrageous things they do, the more views they get (hell I can't help but look), and then when they ball up their plane, we all pay for it.

I was thinking the exact same thing, plus the free fall for a bit. I'm not saying it isn't legit, but my BS meter was definately pegged on redline....

I sure hope he wasn't insured, otherwise we will all be paying for this intentional stunt.

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

Staged, stupid, and/or both. With the altitude he had at the 'failure' he should have easily ridden down hill to a suitable landing. The dry river at 5:09 shows promise to landings we purposefully seek out. The drama over being in 'the wild' with mountain lions and bears is ridiculous, my fat sister (None of my sisters are actually fat, it's an inside joke) and wonderful daughter each posses more spine than this coward. He is an embarrassment to aviators, and outdoorsman alike, and I am disappointed in myself for contributing to his 'views'.

Rant over....

Staged for sure. I spied many potential emergency landing possibilities…..

I call total BS!! Just a staged event hoping to boost u-tube views. I wish they would stop wrecking good training aircraft.

Based on what we pay in taxes medical should have been fully free, including getting tit jobs, like 20 years ago, I should also be able to roll a marble from Ca to NY based on fuel taxes. But I digress

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

Is it illegal to intentionally crash an airplane?

I have zero belief this was anything but staged. He had a shit eating grin on his face the whole time. Who flies with a parachute? Sure looks like there could have been some good landing areas below him. I did not see any attempt to restart the engine. Has the presence of mind to pull the GoPro off the top of the panel, and hold a selfie stick while in free fall.
Perhaps he put in just enough fuel to get to a good place for his PR stunt. Thereby reducing the chance of starting a forest fire when it crashes.

I don't think I can say anything nice, so I'll stop here.

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

So, .... he parachutes to the airplane crash site? Then walks to the cows on the ranch but doesn't land there in the first place? Saw some roads; did they not lead down hill to something more hospitable? He had time to free fall for a while chewing up much altitude that could have been spent looking for a landing spot? I had my grandmother's ashes for a destination dispersion, but did I have them on my person in the plane?........Because of all this, I call total BS.

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

That was almost certainly a reckless and irresponsible scheme to get attention. Very theatrical. Piss poor airmanship, if you can even call it that. Easy LZs within gliding distance.

Re: Interesting crash and bailout video

For how suspicious it certainly looks, it makes it kind of amusing how the headset is smacking him upside the head in the initial freefall.
