Yeah, tablets may not be as reliable as a "built for aircraft" device, but Garmin's database doesn't include private airports and that's a problem for me. A lot of my flights are to private strips that don't show up on my 430 GNS, so I find it very useful to also have a tablet, or phone with a more complete database. It I were building a simple go anywhere plane for fun, I'd probably put one of the iFly aviation tablets in the panel. Their database is less expensive than the Garmin and more complete. I only paid $129.98 for a year's subscription to the iFly database including georeferenced IFR approaches. The same functionality for my GARMIN cost $499/yr, and like I mentioned, it doesn't include the location of private strips.
