I once knew this cub well. Looks like you've done her good, I'd love to see it again someday. 8)

Yeah, tablets may not be as reliable as a "built for aircraft" device, but Garmin's database doesn't include private airports and that's a problem for me. A lot of my flights are to private strips that don't show up on my 430 GNS, so I find it very useful to also have a tablet, or phone with a more complete database. It I were building a simple go anywhere plane for fun, I'd probably put one of the iFly aviation tablets in the panel. Their database is less expensive than the Garmin and more complete. I only paid $129.98 for a year's subscription to the iFly database including georeferenced IFR approaches. The same functionality for my GARMIN cost $499/yr, and like I mentioned, it doesn't include the location of private strips.

The Garmin handhelds do include the private strips. And after my latest update they show up on my 375 panel mount now as well. Very happy about that, as it was very frustrating to not have them.

Greg, this is a great thread. Excited that you are building one of these. I'll be following closely as I've been wanting b=to build something similar. I'll second that 30.5 tanks suck to get washed out and sitting in the wing properly. Done them more than once on planes I've built for customers. The 24s are definitely what I'd go with. I like the Acme shocks. My preference is for toe brakes, but that's probably just because I'm most comfortable with them and what I fly the rest of the year in my 206 and air tractor. I like the oversize tail surfaces. I think they'd be worth having.
Have fun and post lots of progress reports!
