I'll try to make it with my SQ-2. Great mountain biking there...I was just at the Fruita Fat Tire Festival last weekend. Would be great to get aerial pics of biking trails too.
If anyone is interested in flying over together from the Colorado Front Range together give me a holler or email.

By the way, it is 9.1 miles via the closest road route from Mack Mesa airport to the Kokopelli trailhead. Not sure where or how one gets from Mack Mesa to the trailhead in a "short 2 miles" but I'd sure like to know!

There are many Kokopelli trail heads not just the one in Loma.
Actually it is a little over 3.2 miles if you head back down 10 road to the trailhead at Mack. And just slightly over 8 miles if you head past the Lake back to Loma trailheads. 10~11 miles of easy road and smooth 2 track dirt puts you at the 16 Road side of the Bookcliff complex. 9 miles west is the start of some excellent "secret" single track the weaves north along the state line ridge up to the Bookcliffs and west to Thompson Springs if you have the legs for it. Or follow 2 track and some single track south down to the Rabbit Valley area.
But hey, what the heck do I know? I only have had a hangar at Mack for about 5 years and I ride there nearly every weekend now.

Hey Ted, I'm going over from Boulder. Not sure of day yet. I got no room for my bike in my J3 - hoping to demo something from OTE in Fruita to get some riding in.

Ted -- Would you happen to be the owner of the stunning orange/yellow SQ2 I have seen out at Platte Valley from time to time?

Thank you for the heads up to the other Kokopelli trail heads. Guess I better hang with the locals on the Mtn bike.

Yes, that's my Federal Yellow & Red SQ-2 at Platte Valley. Let's get together for flying/beers/riding! I'm always up for meeting new folks and a new adventure.

I'd love to check out that bird someday and listen to your experience with Backcountry Cubs. Like most of us, the SQ2 is the a dream build...

The video snippets I linked above was from one my random stops out there at Platte Valley in my little PA11 look-alike. Glad to see you on here!

When were you guys thinking of mountain biking? Friday afternoon? Saturday afternoon?

Is there a schedule for festivities?

I'm thinking of riding after the prime early am flying time and before the pre-sunset flying time, both Friday and Saturday.

Re: Mack Mesa Fat Tire Jamboree May 15-17, 2015

There is no formal schedule. It is Mack after all. There is a poker run Sat all day and some spot landing contests around mid day. BBQ dinner Sat night and a band is scheduled to play later in the evening. Pancake breakfast Sat but I don't know about Sunday morning. The temps are supposed to be in the mid 70's both days with lows in the 50's. We've had record rainfall the past 3 weeks so everything is green and lush.
The grass strip is like a golf course right now as well as the camping area.
The spot landing should be interesting as there will be an assortment of Carbon Cubs, SQ2s, Highlander STOLs, Bearhawks and a bunch of SuperCubs.
The nearby desert strips around Mack and Moab should be in excellent shape and the low temps should make the canyon flying awesome. If it stays fairly dry the next week the high country strips will be primo.
The mountain biking should be epic for those who want to ride. There is a shuttle van to use for food and Mogas if you need and I'm sure you can use it for bike drop offs and pick ups. 24 hour Avgas is available but remember, Mack has no lights for night ops.
There is a small gun range so don't be surprised to hear shots occasionally. Also the bowling ball cannon is scheduled to be there too.
Hope to see a bunch of you there!

That's what I was looking for. Thanks. So nothing is going on Friday. I'll probably be heading over Friday afternoon. I might have to head back Saturday night. Just depends on whether we go to another family function. Sounds like Saturday night is the night not to miss though!

You can check out my latest video on the "where did you fly today" thread to see the latest condition at Mack as well as a little footage of some of the nearby single track.

Hey guys, I have a bike reserved in my name at Over the Edge in Fruita. I'm hoping to get a ride over and say hi to Tater Tott - the mayor of Fruita!

No mate, looks like typical spring time in the rockies. If the showers are isolated or scattered then it shouldn't be a problem picking through them. It will be windy. The sun will shine and it will rain/snow all at the same time. Oh, and it will be warm and cold at the same time too!
But we will go anyway and have a good time anyway too.
