Thanks for posting the pictures. Sorry we didn't get to meet. I had to blast out on Friday after a week there. Maybe next time.

Greg,

I guess both you and I need to find photos to update our avatars. Good seeing you at the Breaks, and looks like you found a keeper of an airplane. Traveling fast and the option of hauling that guitar of yours is a nice feature.

Greg.... I failed to put "Greg" and "soyAnarchisto" together as being one in the same! If you mentioned it, I didn't hear it probably, all I knew was you play a mean guitar. I was planning to razz you about stepping down to a 180 from a J-3, ha ha. Actually, quiz you, about how you are liking the increased operating costs V. more room/speed etc., not that I'm thinking of jumping ship from the S-7S or anything, just curious. I also should have insisted you ride my e bike, and I wanted to ask what the hell soyAnarchisto means anyway. Next time!

I'll take a stab at what Soyanarchisto means. I believe it means "I am an anarchist." Do I win a prize?

I thought N11ZA was a good looking Maule before. It is really beautiful. Who did the rebuild? I would love to see a thread on that rebuild.

Re: NBAW (Johnson Creek JUNE 16-19, 2016)

Yeah, Tom sorry I didn't make that clearer. I had a good look at your bike while it was charging up. I wanted a ride but never found a good chance. Seems like you picked up a bunch of fans of that bike. I will check out that web site you recommended.

SoyAnarchisto means "I am an anarchist" in Spanish (the spelling is probably off but you get the gist).

I picked it up climbing volcanos in south america, as I speak nary a word of Spanish. Well cerveza might count. My climbing partner and I used a lonely planet Spanish phrasebook for central america to get by - and you turn the middle pullout where there is a group of "essential phrases" to survive. And right there next to "wheres the bathroom" and "i need food" was "soy anarchisto" presumably to keep you from being disemboweled by the sandanistas. Between that phrase and sewing a Canadian flag on our backpacks we survived - but the Quechans we encountered were lovely people. No anarchy required.

Twflyer, te debo una cerveza próxima vez que te veo!

That's a great story, Soy. Your screen name always makes me think of Joe Ely and Joe Strummer shout-singing in the background of The Clash's Should I Stay or Should I Go, which is not a bad thing at all.

Shaun Tubbs at Performance Air in Caldwell, Idaho is who did all the work. He is a fantastic craftsman and quite the innovator. A good guy to work with. I guess I’ll eventually throw together a thread to share more details of my Maule rebuild. It really is a new airplane tip to tail. It’s been a long road that has been quite an experience, but we’ve turned out with a heck of a nice machine…and exactly how I want it.

Image
I flew it Wednesday through Sunday and have 18-20 hours on it now. It was a good test run that allowed time to find all the bugs. It’s back in Caldwell now to allow Shaun to finish up some little squawks and finalize everything. I suppose I’ll get it back home in another week or so.

But for this NBAW thread, I’ll say a little more about the weekend. We flew into Johnson Creek late Friday evening from Caldwell and out early Sunday morning for Texas. It was good to see many familiar faces, but I know I missed meeting many others. However, our time spent there was really good. Being Father’s Day weekend, it was special for me to have both my son and my dad along for the trip. Neither of them had ever been to Idaho and they were both amazed by all that they got to see and do. Beautiful scenery, awesome airplanes, and great company. Hard to think of a better Father’s Day gift. It was one that I got to give and receive at the same time.

Image
Breakfast at Sulphur Creek. A busy place this weekend, but as awesome as ever.

Image
“Pa” has to have his daily 15 minute nap…even on vacation.

Image
Pops seems to entertain the young and old alike. What a great time.

First major amendment to the project. The three blade lost its job. More on this later.

Awesome bird. That's an Idaho machine for sure. Would love to hear the 3 blade to two blade story.

Re: NBAW (Johnson Creek JUNE 16-19, 2016)

Thanks for the compliments. I look forward to sharing more about the new ZA. There's a lot that can't be seen in these pictures that make it a unique Maule. When I get back to Caldwell, I'll get some quality pictures and then write up a build thread after I get it home...hopefully soon, before I go crazy. After such a long wait, getting to spend a few days with it and then having to leave it again is pure torture.
