Re: NW Get togethers 2011

Another question, Rob, from a vfr guy: In an uncontrolled airstrip, with no localizer, like Pacific City, I'm guessing that you could not land through a cloud layer unless it was reported to be pretty high?

tom

ps. I flew over Nehelem Saturday morning and saw all you hosers parked all along the runway. I had a pax that needed to get home, or I would have dropped in for some abuse. Looked like an excellent turnout. What % was PCP folks versus others?

From what I hear, 50% was PCP, 20% LSD, and 30% Meth. :D

scottnt wrote:Hey Rob, what kind of IFR clearance did you request to get out of there? An IFR to VFR on top, or a full blown IFR route clearance, and if so, what was your clearance to, i.e. what initial fixes did you use? I'm curious because the thought has crossed my mind on the coast many time, but I've never actually had to do it. Cheers!

AOPA Safety Advisor

Many pilots do not know that IFR flight without a
clearance is permitted in uncontrolled airspace,
provided that the pilot is instrument-rated and the
aircraft is equipped for instrument flight.

I was in Class G airspace.

I agreed to take my daughter and her boy friend to lunch at Full Sail Brewing. Had to get them home for work. The wind was a blowing pretty darn hard, makes for a good challenge. You got any thoughts for tomorrow? I'm suppose to work because we are doing the Madras airshow later this week. But if your idea is just to good to resist, ya never know I might blow work off.

BCP turn out was a effing joke! Very disappointed, since this has been on the schedule for months. I understand we can't all make all the NW Get togethers but 4 planes from BCP, come on we can do better than that. Even the good ol boy who set this up was a no show. I can come up with excuses with the best of you. But I would rather fly, camp, eat out, have an adult beverage, sit by the camp fire than some other stuff that can wait till the short NW summer is over.
The folks who did show up are some of the best to camp and laugh with I will say that much. We had a fantastic time!!!

I do understand a lot of people just don't like the group stuff. I get it. We had a nice size group. We all fit around the fire and it had a real down home, family feel. Not the JC circus/county fair/rock concert feel. We could have had 5 more planes and kept the down home feel. I know those of us who made it won't soon forget Saturday because it was a 5 star/A++ day.

Cheers...Rob

Re: NW Get togethers 2011

Mine are pretty simple excuses...my wife is 2 weeks short of the due date and she said no overnighters away...and I don't have a plane to count on. The rental is grounded, probably for awhile.

I hope everyone finally got out of Nehalem Bay by now. I was flying commercial this morning to a business appt. ,looked out the window about 10:30AM towards the coast where Nehalem should be and it was a blanket of fog several miles inland.

Awesome time!
A few of us even got to spend an extra day :) and delivered pizza!
Weaved our way into the coast range around fog and Mountian tops, wife says it was the prettiest flight she has ever been on. She might just take to this flying stuff yet.

Not that I saw, which is why I said horses to begin with.

You lived in Colorado & never seen elk? Surprising....
Elk are easy to tell from cows & horses-- just look for the light-colored rump. Plus they're all the same color.
If you wanna see a bunch from the ground, head up to the Oak Creek wildlife area east of Rimrock Lake-- they feed them there in the wntertime but I think they stay in the area all year around. Lots of deer also.

I never said that. I still say I saw horses but got the impression that folks thought I was wrong. That's why I said maybe they were elk. I was pretty high up, so maybe I'm wrong and they weren't horses.

Cliff,
The pastries you brought with you from Garabaldi were the bomb!
Now that I think about it you must have drove South to get the goodies and then North all the way to Manzanita.
Thanks again!!!
